Mk3: 4000Km African road trip!!

Post by Philip Lochner »

Hi All

Just sharing that tomorrow morning I'm setting out on a 4000km road trip in South Africa with my '74 Mk3. Basically the trip will be as follows:
Pretoria - Bonnievale - George - Pretoria

This will be the first long trip with the new high compression engine, and again I'll be watching the fuel consumption carefully. Two friends are going with, one in a '03 XJR and the other in a '13 Range Rover (he was supposed to come in his '72 E-type, but I suspect he's been tempted by the comfort of the Rangie)

Will post pics when I can.
Best regards
Philip

Look forward to reading all about it. Have a safe trip..

OR you could document this trip and write for the club magazine.
Only working half a day now.

Shame, you must be the editor of the club magazine...

Not sure what "document" entails, but I'll see if I can present you with something useable.

Day 1: 760km.520km on one tank. Fuel consumption calculated at 7.2km/L on the 1st tank.

I discovered today that I did not have parking lights. Wrong wire connected to the switch.

36 litres to cover 500km? That equals almost 40 miles per imperial gallon. Surely some mistake there?

I agree, 13.73l/100km = 20.6mpg (UK) = 17.1mpg (US)
Very respectable for a 7.2litre!

This one has the 4L60E with the locking torque converter?

What computer are you running with that tranny setup?

Thanks -

Rocky

PS.. forgot to mention: “you are living the dream”

PSS.. While driving,do you continue to sing “we are marching to Pretoria, Pretoria, hurrah! “? I would be!

Rocky, yes this one has the 4L60e. I'm using megasquirt gpio with MSEXTRA transcontrol software to control it. Torque converter locks up at 70km/h under light foot driving.

My song of choice is: "Oh what a beautiful moooooorning, oh what a beautiful day
I've got a wonderful feeeeeeling, everything is going my way
