Cars you have a hankering for...

Post by AndrewP »

Just for a bit of fun here in general discussion but what car do you have a strange, even unexplained attraction to?

I`ll start by saying that at no time have I had a desire for anything crazy and french before (include the female sort as well)

But....Citroen SM

Like some futuristic spaceship created by crazy french dudes with berets on smoking LSD listening to Bertrand Gachot and Serge Gainsbourg...

Look at that rear quarter panel and the way the boot smooths into it...
Luurvely

Any other notable mentions to this list?
(I wont mention my Aston Martin Lagonda fetish  )

Completely agree. When I was a kid the school run went past Middleton Motors in Potters Bar, and there was always a white RHD SM parked on the forecourt. Got me hooked then, and I still love them now. I seem to remember reading there was an Aussie outfit called "SM Australia" who produced a number of RHD versions too?

I'd love one of these, an original Fiat X1/9 1300.

not many left now, most have rotted away. Plenty of the later 1500's with the ugly US bumpers, which is the version I had way back. Sublime handling little car. I can't get so excited about the 1500, it went better than the 1300 but a car has to look right and that one was spoiled.

Being a Western Australian you have a very good chance of being inbred through a probable French line. This would explain the curious leaning to an SM. Last time I saw one was at Dutton's Melbourne with a price of $60K Aus around 1990. Also on show was a "restored" SP on consighment with no warranty and was sold to a chancer in Queensland. Found out later when he enquired about the club that it was full of rust and he was "very unhappy". I remember it was green in colour at the time and had been used to deliver beer cartons from the back minus seats and parcel shelf. It was parked near me. lesson was for him he should have joined the club first not waiting for the dirty deed to be done. However I digress. I still fancy Armstrong Siddeley Sapphire which I have mentioned on this forum as have many happy memories of black nylons, blond hair and green eyes.
What i rooly, rooly want though is a nice train set. kenny38 n

A buddy here in Tucson is restoring an SM, and has a parts cars. I'll try and get a picture.

Do you mean unobtainable cars?

This one. Definitely.

Saw it in the flesh at the Nürburgring 1975, James didn‘t finish.

I may be about to negate my own realistic criteria... whilst the cars may - sort of - be affordable, they wouldn't fit in the garage :D

The Citroen is so cool. There was one at a JOC international a few years back. I spent quite some time drooling over it, admiring both the car and the courage of the owner of such a magnificent machine. An owner who must be thrilled and terrified in equal measure to own such a fantastic car.
If this thread is about having a weird attraction to certain cars, here are two that I find strangely alluring. My parents owned the standard versions of both...

Just found the pics of the Citroen at the JOC international... back in 2008. Awesome isn't it.
Though it would be well out of my price range, I've always lusted after this particular Jensen Ford too.

One of the members of our Dallas Mopar Club has made a very impressive clone of the "Bluesmobile". His finishing touch this last year was to pull out the 400 in it and install a 440 like in the movie car.

I love the SM but scary car when they go wrong. I remember as a child I grew up in a fairly poor district of Brum, and there were only a handful of kids at my primary school who's parents had a car. One day my best mate's dad who worked at the local Citroen dealership turned up in one to take us home, it was like being in a space ship, I was about 9 at the time. We were everybody's best mate for good while afterwards. :D
Some of my fantasy garage, the Mk1 Lotus Cortina has always just been out of mt price range, but now has gone stratospheric, and although I've pictured a Delahaye, any of the prewar 1930's streamlined cars almost get the man mayonnaise flowing
