Guys you forgot my car which I had previously given a short history about in the members cars section, originally TEA 700L now registered as DBY 921M. I think there is a full list of all the factory registered interceptors in Richard Calvers book.

(very) roughly, 15% of the pre-War cars had EA registrations. Such as the first three S types but not the first H type, even though it was kept 'in house' and used by Richard Jensen for his wedding.

And of course several prototypes including the 504 2-seater and the P66 had EA registrations.

My yellow Interceptor Convertible was first owned by the factory and run as their demonstrator for a period, loaned to various dealerships and this included some TV appearances on Its a Knockout and Yorkshire TV. It does not have the usual HEA registration but has always been registered HHA 645N. Is this unusual?

Somebody more knowledgeable may have an answer, but I had had noticed that one of the 541S prototypes does not carry a EA number either, and had wondered why.

I remember reading somewhere in this forum that the use of the EA suffix stopped in the later years either because the West Bromwich LVLO closed or it was something to do with the forthcoming DVLC centralisation. I think Tony Marshall knows the answer to this one. The answer will be buried in the forum somewhere if you can search it out!

Good memory Chris

While at the factory, and living in the Albany Hotel in Birmingham, Carl Duerr usually took a car from the road test section of the production line for his commute to and from the hotel, and would report any defects or ideas back to them. Otherwise he would use one of the demo cars, usually with driver Albert Jackson, who Duerr recruited from his position as doorman at the Albany.
Remember that all JML company cars carried -EA ldetters up until the disppearance of West Brom tax office in 1974.

Grant is bang on-
Sorry to bore, but checked & hadn't posted XEA before ref demo's etc-

The first phot- that Me & Scott (best mates then) buggering off to workshop in DBS- that Paul's workshop where we both lived then, we dossed at each others gaff- mine mostly.
Unreal this week, someone said " I knew Adrian & Tim, Tim used to bunk off & come to the garage"
That was 1989- well I was working there this week-Ex Hyde Vale we were!!

Jensen & Aston Martin (not in any order as both as awesome as each other to us) love both, dad's first loves before mum.
He cleaned Joe Browns DB6, Joe after a couple of weeks noticed he spent longer & longer & was clear it was car-not him!
Joe ended up simply giving dad the keys to move VERY! slightly the car to clean- dad always said later it was a trast that Joe knew he would love & not abuse.
Dad cleaned it when he wasn't even there (Joe).

Dad wrote:

1) I want to be happy, meet love of live & have happy family
2)Want us all healthy & happy
3) I want to be of use & shine, at least have work thats respected- but work!
4) Unlikely, but for me (his words this is his list 1969) the cars I would dream of owning is yhe Aston Martin DBS,& the Jensen Interceptor -
Dad had only seen them, his best mate ended up owning one first!

Left home on a borrowed Li scooter- lived with best mates mum with nothing but bag of washing.
Funny as grew up near Uncle Colin in Essex.
