Outside Covers

Post by R.D. Sigi Herring »

Just a note regarding the 'fitted cover' made for the Blue Thing a few years ago.

I fried the distributor about 3x weeks ago and it was trailered back to my office and had to stay outside while I took lunchtime breaks to fix it all. Anyway, the cover has been amazing in all these storms keeping the car bone dry throughout. The long shape had helped stop splashing from the ground upwards, and even in the worst downpour, it has been brilliantly protected.

I've no association with Specialised Covers, who made it, and I'm not paid by them in any way. It's simply a recommendation that some may appreciate if they haven't got a garage.

With reference to the JOC cover, I see that it is non-breathable and totally waterproof. Does that not result in condensation on the inside that get trapped and then cannot get out?
Quite a lot of covers on the market make a big deal of them being breathable to let any moisture that may be on the inside to get out.

Halfords extra large fits pukka, almost made for CV-8/'Ceptor shapes.
£49.99- yup its better than the 200 quid cover I have & the others I wont mention that are mega dollars & are not as good as this, the 200 quider this morning, wet underneath, the halfords bone dry no dust & soft, esp as the car was only 'Colin'ed' recently, hence the cheaper better cover fitted!
They will degrade after a few years, but mine see harsh weather, and at that money its a no brainer- maybe we should stock them!
Your FF registra & Cv-8 regirsta also use them.

I need one of these! Is yours the Stormshield or Stormshield Plus? I understand the Plus has a fleece lining.

I've just checked, & it's a Stormshield Plus ( I couldn't remember as I got in 2014)
The fleecy lining is great, as are the 4x straps that go under the car.
Even in the worst storm winds, these keep the cover on very tightly.
It never leaks, and the snug fit with the wing mirror options ( you can specify, on which side) stops the wind getting underneath.Ohh, and they used to offer different colours too?

I did try a couple of the cheaper covers, but they kept blowing off, despite a couple of extra tie downs I used. Worse still, the wind got underneath, and the flapping material started micro scratching the paint. Luckily it buffed out, but the fleece on this one is great.

As I say, I've no benefit for posting this but wanted to share what I think is a great product.
As they say, "you pays your money, and makes your choice"

I hope this is helpful.

Maybe might be worth contacting regalia and get them to answer your question

I have the same cover as Tim and have the same views. Very good for the money.

I have used both 'breathable' and waterproof covers. The breathable was used on two fibreglass cars and resulted in micro blistering on both. The water proof cover is on a painted steel body which has remained bone dry for the past four months. There has been some misting up of inside windows at the start, but only because there were a couple of damp patches in the front carpets. Mine has no soft lining and I cannot remember its name, only that it came from a firm in Bristol. On a pristine body I would go for the lined type, but definitely waterproof.
