I think he's going to be replacing that gearbox, hopefully before the front of it along with the clutch assembly, explodes into the cabin. A 9" Ford rear end will take the abuse, not sure about that transmission.

Your car's looking terrific Ian, but I have to agree with the comment about the strength of the Jaguar gearbox!

Good luck Ian I'm sure the Jaguar gearbox will be fine.

Precisely the sort of thing that the classic press should be picking up on, but probably won't bother.

Re: Open for discussion
My apologies Ian,
I didn't realize this was yours. I must have skipped that groove. Beautiful workmanship and a very serious looking track weapon. I wish you some podium finishes during the season. I still have reservations regarding the gearbox tho. You're dumping a whole bunch of raw, angry fun into that drivetrain, maybe more than the gearbox is rated to handle. I'm not familiar with that 'box tho. I have seen the aftermath an exploding flywheel/clutch/gearbox leaves, that area was the weak link in the power chain. Still have teeth marks on my heart from viewing that. I'd wrap that area in a safety/containment blanket to control the shrapnel if dramatic failure occurs. I have a friend that still has his feet because he was using one when the worst happened. Inspiring work you've done on it,enjoy the drive.

Re: Open for discussion
Thanks for the support guys.
The gearbox I'm using actually came out of a Lister Jaguar XJ6, however despite all the engine upgrades Lister carried out the gearbox was left standard.
I will, before the event, be stripping the gearbox, checking and replacing all bearings, seals and anything else that's not perfect.
In terms of abuse, the major advantage of such a long run course, is the lack of stress in the gearbox, taking a few miles to get up to speed means no extreme acceleration.
I will add a few years ago when I first started sprint racing, I contacted Peter for some advice re suspension set up and he very generously gave me all his data. It must have cost him a fair bit to get it, yet he gave it up freely. If there wasn't a planet in the way I certainly would love to meet up with him.
Thanks to Shaun I am going to get some coverage in C&SC but if anyone has any other media contacts I will follow them up.
I am hoping to make the revival this year, but work is taking up far too much of my time at the moment.

Re: Open for discussion
For those who are following my exploits, whilst I have yet to track down a copy, apparently we got a mention in the September edition of Classic and Sports Car.
Also this years event hasd started and it's really whetted our appetite to get out there.

What a wonderful adventure!
Just thinking if that Webasto roof is going to stay in place? I can imagine the low pressure at speed above the roof will be trying to suck that thing off its rails..
Anyway, gotta get that speed first. Good luck and safe travels.
