Early Interceptor
Early Interceptor
Anyone know the story behind this early Interceptor and that unique headlight treatment?
DVLA states it was lat taxed June 01, 1979.
Photo apparently taken on 24/06/1973 at Beaulieu.

Re: Early Interceptor
the club has records showing the owner at the time of the Beaulieu meeting and the chassis number for this car. I am not sure I want to make this information public on the forum. What kind of answer were you hoping for?

Well, one thing for sure is whoever stuck those headlights on had absolutely zero sense of style and design!Arcnewal wrote:Anyone know the story behind this early Interceptor and that unique headlight treatment?

Re: Early Interceptor
Completely disagree Chris - a way better look than the ugly duckling front of the standard Early Interceptor.Chris_R wrote:Well, one thing for sure is whoever stuck those headlights on had absolutely zero sense of style and design!Arcnewal wrote:Anyone know the story behind this early Interceptor and that unique headlight treatment?

Re: Early Interceptor
Nope, sorry, I think the front on that one was ruined. Incorporating twin headlights is difficult and requires a different frontal style to make it work properly. These have just been stuck on the front with no real thought for form or style.

Re: Early Interceptor
I think It just might have been a customers requirement, because the wings have been made to suit the car and fit the twin heads lights.. It doesn't look out of place.
Only working half a day now.

Re: Early Interceptor
Interesting how we see things differently. I thought it was a typical mod of the 70's era to try and breath new life into an old looking round wing car. Looks a bit heavy handed to be a factory mod to me. But of course, pure speculation on my part.
I guess if the work maintained owner enjoyment and interest in the car, helping it to survive, then it's been worthwhile.

Re: Early Interceptor
Mark is right, that was common modification in the 70th.
On Volkswagen Käfer they used the head lights of the NSU TT to make it look faster.
Body modification was normally GFRP.

I own some of the odd Jensen
Re: Early Interceptor
There was a heavily modified one around at the time of the photo. (Beaulieu , second JOC rally.) The one I am thinking about was chromed all over the place, even the engine block had been chromed.
Dave Barnet might remember the car. The owner at that time was a little eccentric may I say.
I believe it was written off in a bad smash.
Mike.
