I hope that is a commission sale and not a case of a humungous dealer mark-up that makes Derek feel like he has been diddled.

If I could command this sort of money for my car, I would also sell. The chance of getting a lump sum like this is not to be taken lightly

How do you value a one off?

Would I buy it if I had the means? No, I wouldn't . It wouldn't be worth anywhere near £1/4m - to me. But it might very well be worth that - maybe more - to someone else.

Assuming it is a commission sale, I wish Derek every success and keep my fingers tightly crossed for him. I do hope he gets a great - and well deserved - result, and really hope that the car is still seen at JOC events and not stashed in an 'investors' 'portfolio' - words that to me don't belong in the classic car world.

I hope it goes for that money to someone whose enthusiasm is as deep as their pockets will hopefully need to be. :D

Fingers crossed for you Derek.

I disagree Richie.

The car is worth every penny. If I had the money I would have bought it long before. A unique and stunning car.

Look at DB5s, they're for sale by the dozen for more. And are they "better" cars? Here you have a one off, no-one else can have a second one.

As said: I'd go for it (if I had the funds).

I would certainly buy it if I could afford it.
I saw it at the NEC in 2015 and it looked stunning.
It won Car of the Show.
And the video from the drone was brilliant.
It's very rarely you come across a unique car.

Please don't misinterpret me. I only meant it wouldn't be worth it to me personally.
But I hope it's worth it and more to someone else. And there's every chance it will be.
A dealer like Joe Macari will hopefully have plenty of well heeled contacts to whom the concept and kudos of owning such a wonderful, special and thoroughly sorted car will appeal immensely.
My point really was one of difficulty to value. £250k may be conservative. For Derek's sake, I hope it is :)

You make an interesting point James and somebody else posted that they hope it finds a sympathetic owner. So, let me tell you a story ....

For many years I owned three rare Jensens. I'm not a showy sort of chap so kept a lowish profile most of the time. I kept receiving offers for the first, but when I decided to sell it after 26 years suddenly nobody was interested and those who had asked for first refusal didn’t even reply. Club members thought it was wonderful and worth a lot of money, but they were not the people with the money to spend. Eventually it was sold through a "cheap" motoring paper to somebody completely unknown. 14 years later he still has it, he loves it, and is restoring it sympathetically to new condition at I suspect great expense.

The second I sold not to the highest bidder, but somebody who I thought would be a good custodian for the long term. He did some work on it, gave it enormous publicity and hype but then after only about three or four years put it up to sale at a stratospheric price to anyone who is prepared to pay it, with no care what happens to it, more than quadrupling what he paid for it.

So, what to do with the third one? Take care to find it a sympathetic home which is best for the future of the car, or don't care and send it to Auction in the USA to get the best price, where it will probably end up with chromed wires, fancy veneered wooden dash and maybe even customised.

It seems I am a bad judge of character, or maybe I was lucky with one and unlucky with the other. The point is, what would you do with the third car and should I care what happens to it?

Of course you care what happens to your car... and so you should. A few years ago I sold my 1948 Land Rover... many years in the family... first car both my boys drove... on the series one Land Rover forum... to the man that was to become the Chair of the club. Sold for less than it would have gotten on the open market, and less than some were talking about, but I needed to know it was going to a good home. He can fix it how he likes, but I know he cares.. and knows what he has. You can only do the best for the car as you see it... or grab as much cash as you can. Choice.

To sell a car like this could not have been an easy one, no matter who owns it. To buy and bring a car up to near perfect condition, maybe better than when it left the factory, after a lot of work. Then with the price increase of classic cars over the past years could make a car like this unusable for the normal classic car owner. What happens if you, god forbid, have an accident while driving the car and the insurance company will not repair because of the cost, finding a specialist for lets say a new wing or door or bonnet, how would you feel then... When taking the car to shows or even the Jensen International people suggesting how much it might be worth.. You get to think that if the worst does happen could the owner afford to repair the car.. Mike was happy with the sale. If this car does sell, hopefully to someone who will appreciate, plus the money, what they have.. And the seller will have a life changing amount of money... I know what I would do as said before...I am sure this car was not purchased initially with the view to sell, make a profit and only keep for a short time, it would be a dilemma for anyone.

Whatever you do with your third car Mike my advice is don't publicly bleat about it afterwards, it's most ungentlemanly.

The P66 being smaller, lighter, more agile (?) than the C-V8- where there any plans by Jensen for them performing on the race track?
