P66 article in Magazine

Post by VFK44 »

Excellent, definitive, article in the latest magazine on the P66 prototype. [It is interesting to see that Derek Chapman has yet again suffered in the small "at the wheel" shot, as it appears that this time he has had a total makeover!]
"Now that chassis number is particularly interesting ‘cos it’s the one after the one before, which is the one after mine, not many people know that"

This brings back memories of me seeing the car at JP&S when my Interceptor II was there in 1989 / 1990.

I'm sure I've seen the gent in the drivers seat before but who is it?

Yes... shame about the error in the picture. The gent shown at the wheel is actually John Atkins, the dentist that first purchased the car from Jensen Motors. I reunited him with the car a couple of years ago....

Excellent and very interesting, especially tracking the history and the travelling spares.

Thank you for this as the P66 is and was always a mystery

It was sad to read about Alan Jensen's reply to Mike Williams.

I popped to see David Millard today, I showed him Ulric's article on the P66. In one photo the P66 convertible is outside an imposing house with beige mortar between the bricks. Millard identified the house immediately. He said "When my son was born I had to get rid of my Mini Cooper and buy a family car. I was chatting to George Newbury and he remarked that he was selling his wife's Triumph Vitesse convertible. I popped over to Halesowen, took one look at it and bought it." The house in the picture is George Newbury's house which stood behind Newbury Motors in Manor Lane, Halesowen. It isn't there any longer, a new development has since been built there.
