Connolly Vaumol / HVL leather

Post by zacmarshall »

Can anyone comment on the quality of Connolly Vaumol or HVL leather? I need to re-trim the C-V8 and the blue grey leather seems to be available in the fine grain of the original in the Vaumol. HVL say they can produce as well. No idea of costs as yet.

Zac,,, I dont think you will do any better than going to UK Hide, it is run by a chap called Bernie, or was run by him, I think he may have passed away now, just cant quite remember.., I saw one of thier vans local to me here about a year ago and spoke to driver in a shop, I said I remebered that Bernie Chap, but as said cant remember his exact answer, but the other chap that always worked with him(that I spoke to) is still there, Bernie used to be at Connolly's over there in wimbledon, so they know their stuff and how the connoly hides used to be, maybe worth a trip there to see the hides for yourself, they are based in Brooklands now arent they, I was over there recently trying to see that Manual Mk1 Int that is there somewhere, but I stumbled across UK Hide instead and never did get to see the Manual Int!!

Hi Zac - it is my understanding that Rejen used Connolly Vaumol on Montpellier's FF and only the best went into that car.

All of the leathers today are surface dyed as part of the final step as I am led to believe. Here in the states there is an outfit under the name Sem in Charlotte NC. I sprayed my center lower backrest and 15 years still looked fantastic. I have done leather restoration on many a Very High End Automobile with fantastic result. One of the cars won an Enzo Ferrari Award that is the highest it gets with Ferrari competion Racerjoe7

Indeed I did source the Vaumol hide and it is of very high quality and close to that used in period. It is produced by a 4th generation of the Connolly family after it left the market for a while. I am very happy with it.

Should also add I have used the moorhead hide on other projects and that too is very high quality.

It depends what you prefer.
