getting rid of a musty smell

Post by zacmarshall »

The interior of my new C-V8 smells a bit musty, other than leaving the windows and webasto roof open any ideas for how to get rid of it?

The interior itself doesn't appear to be damp.

Just thinking I will get the interior professionally cleaned and see what it is like after that....

I'm sure the weather for Le Mans will be fantastic and we will have the windows down and roof open....

Hi Zac, try putting a dehumidifier inside for a few days, it may not feel damp but as I'm sure you are aware it will still pull some damp out, then put a good quality air freshener in her and it should improve it. Once you use her regularly it will get better anyway.

Try Fabreeze on the carpets and cleaning and feeding the leather with Gliptone (total cost £15 ish).

I find Gliptone provides a great leather smell.

Although my car has no obvious leaks etc..

I always put a damp control box inside when under its cover.

I'm always suprized how much it takes out of the car.

Less than a fiver..

Chop an onion in half and leave it in the interior this will absorb the musty smell.

One of these air fresheners should do the trick

Try ozone generator. Its cost appr. 100 usd and available from EBAY. I use it and it works. It might be also used as service - some car wash companies offer it.

I did wonder if I was Lewi or Rob :-)

Will give it a good clean before Le Mans, Shaun and I may need to wear lots of aftershave

Will think about the ozone treatment when I get back.

Hello Zac

Try Baking soda 1/2 a cup full left in a mug or plastic up inside car for a few days ive used this before in fridges that have been turned off with food in and the doors left shut and it gets rid of any bad smells and neutralises them cheap and easy.

For condensation get a news paper and seperate the pages then spread them out laying sheets of news paper across seats, floors, parcel shelf and dash this soaks up lots of condensation if left for 24 hours.

Both cheap solutions to try first

Looking forward to seeing the car maybe at the ace in August ?

Ace in August sounds like a plan - I want to take it to Quickfit Safety Belts to have new front and rear belts fitted before Luke goes in the car.
