Charcoal grey paint code, anyone?

Post by ginger_dave »

Hi folks,

I know posts about paint codes are really, really dull but.... does anyone know the correct code for Charcoal?

I just want to get a period-correct paint on to the Mk1 and can't find any help on the forum search.

Many thanks -- and apologies -- in advance.

David.

You do not need a color code but you need an example of the color say inside area of a door the area that is coaver ex by the door panel. The color code for a car made that far back in time does not relate to paint companies today because the tints are far different for today's type paint. You need to go to a color map cross reference to a similar color and have is custom made. Even black has some tint or shade of blue or brown in it often times. The tints in Europe are usually sourced in Europe same goes for US companies the metallics come in different sizes and different origins. It is a lot more complicated than a code number letter or name plus the suppliers were approximate matches to the original supplier to Jensen. Joe Schiavone. Racerjoe7@gmail.com

Another option. Go to the shop you choose and find out what type of paint they prefer to use. Call that manufacture and ask for the color library and see if they have a cross reference to the original paint they offered for that Jensen Jag Aston and massaritie. Glass riot. And Akzo Nobel ( Sikkens ) should for sure be able to help you. Racerjoe. A good shop should have a color map of shades and houghs and they can mix up a very small amount for you to see

unwanted engine heat

Post by Joe Schiavone »

If you are experiencing unwanted heat and suspect it from the engine you can verify for sure that it is coming in from the cowl vent area with the hood closed by using a EVAP system diagnostic tester. It emits a smoke with a Florescent dye. By placing the smoke ementing hose just under the cowl emoting the smoke toward the water tray. If the smo with the engine running and hood closed check for smoke or a florscemt color coming out of your vents or else ware the. You have the leak coming I from the engine compartment. You may have the heat deflector missing which I have already posted about. This is a positive test for where the problem is coming in from racerjoe7@gmail.com

Do not compare some original patch on the car with samples but have it analysed by an experienced and up to date car painter that has the proper analyser and computer equipment and the right experience with the paint and thinners. The latter can influence the result considerably.
It should be a spot on match.

On another thread, which I can't find, people were talking about silver.
Someone reckoned that the stainless steel and chrome brightwork just got 'lost' on a bright silver car.
Certainly it looks that way on the silver Audi in the photo below, whereas the bright stuff really stands out on the blue Audi.
Grey is for boring people and interesting people should paint their cars red, or yellow, or lime green.
My car is grey.
The cars below are priced at 3,100 pounds and 6,000 pounds, respectively, proving you can double the value of your silver car by painting it blue.
DuPont is coming out with a new paint colour to commemorate Brexit; John Major grey.
