The Good Bad And Ugley. In the 70s when I was was an apprentice. I got a hernia while doing a clip job. Took 10 weeks befor I could work again. Less than 5 years later I got another hernia the opposite side. Different doctor. Operated on a Monday and was welding on the underside of a 275 long nose Ferrari and kep on going. Ther are good and bad in all trades. The ugley is when you get the bad. It does occur. Racer Joe

A few pics of my now disassembled engine.

Considering its age and long periods of inactivity its in good knick only needing new standard big end shells,replacement cam chain/sprockets and some new standard piston rings plus all the necessary seals,core plugs etc.

A good testament of the original build quality.

If the engine internals are stored in a crate can you say you have a "crate motor"? :roll:

Built up engine now awaiting the ancillary bits.

Bought a rattle can of mopar orange to do water pump housing/inlet manifold to smarten things up a touch then a good blast of rocker covers and detail and hopefully it will be a job well done.

2 more pieces of foilcloth to apply in the engine bay (will take a few pics and post later) then get my head around making it all work again!!

Firewall and bulkhead area insulated.

The cabin fan was a bit tired so have opted for a modern alternative (4 seasons 76959) as used by Mark I on his "new build from the States"

Fan motor ready to be installed and sealed with foilcloth.

Alternative resistor is housed within body to ensure cooling air when fan is operational and resistor is active.

The peculiar looking and now fragile old resistors under the battery can now be retired.

Fan motor and resistor now in place and nearside wiring routes worked out.

New harness for the offside which may take a little longer to plan!!..contemplating a few mods.

The "guts" are now back in,its now a case of bolting a few more bits on to the engine to keep the muck and dirt out.

Off to the body shop for attention to the metalwork at the back end of the car next.

It's coming along Tim, that foil heat shielding takes some time, but well worth it once it's done. Keep up the good work, looking forward to seeing it.

Thanks Mark and Kev for your appreciation.Went nice and steady through these past few months especially with the great summer-preferred to get out and about when possible.

Some bad bits have now been removed from the offside and the amount of metal layers at the top of the wheel arch is noticeable due I have learnt to the wonderfully skilfull build methods.

To create the complete wheel arch and the outer panel invovlved required 4 separate manufacturing stages,quite unreal when you think of today's car plants with robot arms with spot welders thrashing around.

The extreme inner section where the tailgate hinges attatch was placed during the chassis build in the main jig.

No further work was carried out until transfer to the #1 body jig when the rounded wheel housing (tub) was attatched.

In a separate operation the complete rear end from the doors backward including the rear panel and the c post up to the roof was assembled.

In the #2 body jig the complete rear end was mated to the wheel housings to complete the operation!!
