Worthwhile petition.

Post by Steve Payne »

Probably worth signing even though it really does not include our marque but they are like minded people none the less.

I think 40 years is fine as it is.

I've signed. the Labour government stopped it with no real reason, the Tories have reinstated a rolling date, but they DID say they would reinstate the 25 year rule. Lets hold them to their pre election manifesto, unfortunately they always get away with conning the public, and when they get in they renege on their promises.
I also agree with Chris that 40 years is ok, but if they say they will do something, then they should do it. If I don't do what I said I would do in my job, then I would be sacked, or at least have to explain my actions, why should they be different?

well it does include mine as my date is 25/5/76 so I suppose I have to wait until 2017 before free tax

Even If some are getting the 40 years rolling tax free it still is worth while signing.

I agree there was nothing made after 1980 I would consider to be a classic, the start of the standard euro box, except maybe an Audi Quattro.

I've had a quick shufti at the last Conservative manifesto, and can't see the rolling 25 year exemption mentioned. It IS in the UKIP manifesto!

I'd take it up to 1983 in case I ever buy another Matra Murena (from memory the last one was built 1st January 1984 befoire they switched to the Espace).

TR7s were built up until October 1981, the original RX7 up to 1985.

The other car I've always fancied since (Knight Rider  ) was the 1980s Firebird / Camaro. Especially a Camaro IROC-Z.

I have my eye on a 90s TVR...I would begrudge paying road tax because it would probably spend most its time conked out in the garage...

I think some of you are being very unfair, just because an ''80's'' car does not float your boat makes it look like '' I am alright so sod you''.

There was a time our cars were considered non classics by some but as time rolls on most cars become classics. What about all those Capri 2.8's,XR3i,Astra GTE, Calibra Turbo, Saab Turbo's and probably a few more 80's cars that are classics in there owners eyes. Some people even like Allegros's and Marinas so now accounting for taste.
