Fitting a modern radio under a seat
I have been thinking about fitting a modern bluetooth / usb equipped radio with a remote control under one of the front seats in the FF.
Just wondered if other people had done this and if anyone has suggestions or recommendations to make. I guess the other option is one controlled by my android phone.

Would it not be easier to just fit one of these http://lanescars.co.uk/classic-retro-de ... usb-ports/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Re: Fitting a modern radio under a seat
The idea was to have the original 8 track working in place as well as the option of a modern radio.
I see that the Autosound radio now comes with bluetooth so this may be an option if I don't bother with the track

My car already has a DIN size radio fitted.

Or Glovebox with a remote control, I put the DAB antenna above the headlining. Only works in a plastic car of course.

Re: Fitting a modern radio under a seat
I found a good guy who overhauled my original radio back to as new including refreshing the circuit board and transistors etc and fitted an fm/dab module and Bluetooth module hidden at the back so cosmetically its identical but it has Dab, FM and Bluetooth.
I'll dig out the details of people want them
Cheers

Future proof yourself, FM/DAB module sounds like the long term investment, when they do switch off FM a standard radio will be virtually useless.

I have used this man a few times with repairs and conversions, name is Mr James (can't remember his Christian name) and he has always proved reliable, if a touch eccentric! Located in Paulton, Zac, so handy for you.

Zac, I have done so on several occasions. No current installations, but the last one was a Sony some 6 or 7years ago. I also place bass speakers under the seat, discretely pkaced tweeters under the outer edges of the dash. On a couple of occasions I have also had a woofer inthe boot. All reversible without a trace. I have found the the front of the unit needs to be just about level with the front of the seat for the IR signal to reach it reliably. A radio type remote would be better.
For a mk1 an option for the bass speakers would be to remove the locker lids by the rear seat and put them onto (safe) storage. Then fabricate a new lid for some compact bass speakers let into the lid. I would try thick alu with foam glued to the back including where they kay agains the cubby. Alternatively make a new cover for the rearhatch boot cover and put big three way speakers into it.

You can use a DAB adapter that transmits FM. It will be a separate unit but there are some quite neat ones available.taximan wrote:Future proof yourself, FM/DAB module sounds like the long term investment, when they do switch off FM a standard radio will be virtually useless.

The chap in Paulton is called Adrian James. Here's his website - http://www.radios.freeserve.co.uk/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
He did a great job upgrading the original Javelin radio in my GT to FM/AM and mp3.

Hi!
What about these devices from Caliber and Gelhard?
These are vintage look with all new technologies: Bluetooth, MP3, USB...
For sure, a radio set is not mandatory, its sound would ne covered by the V8, or, especially with some Led Zep tracks I have, it could cover the V8. But it fullfills the empty space on the dashboard, and provide some modern comfort with a neo-retro touch!

What do you think? Does someone already have these devices?
