Re: Name that car

Because of Japan's tough annual test procedures, there is a tradition of shipping cars abroad as they age. With RHD, the UK was an obvious market and used Figaros flooded in.

They only had four Seasonal colours, named after jewels, which was green for Spring, azure blue for Summer, beige for Autumn and grey for Winter. (Guess who spent some time in the Figaro Owners' stand?)

Two of many oddball cars available on the Japanese website above.
Edit:
The blue car is a Toyota Origin.
The other is a Toyota Classic.

Anyone know what this oddball is, snapped in Epping a few years ago?

Once you get into Japanese domestic model cars, I think we may as well give up. They seem to have made thousands of different ones, on a monthly basis.
I saw one here the other day that was clearly a first-generation Impreza but with a sort of Wolseley-like grille stuck onto the front, and strange lights.

It's a Suzuki Alto Lapin, or variant.

The models exhibited in 1947 never entered production. In 1950 the business closed.
So, genuinely "as rare as a unicorn" (the name of the car).

Rather like Mercedes, which was the name given to a racing Daimler that became more more famous that the parent company name, the car was actually a Corre but after racing success adopted a name drawn from its aristocratic driver's coat-of-arms: a unicorn, or la licorne.

On this wonderful website, all examples of the car appear to be RHD.

I think that French cars were predominantly RHD well into the 20th century.
