Name That Car
Re: Name That Car
If like me you enjoy these weird car spotting threads, I highly recommend subscribing (for free) to Michael Banovsky's "Car of the Day" e mails: http://www.banovsky.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; - at least one of the cars above was featured here. Very entertaining.

Re: Name That Car
Not a clue. They all look pretty pleased with it, apart from the chap on the left. I reckon he's the company accountant, working out when they are going to become bankrupt...

Re: Name That Car
Used Google to cheat, and found that the T-top on this car was very significant.
The designer was well known in the US, but I have still never heard of the company...In 1968, [the designer] initiated a lawsuit against Chevrolet, which added a T-top to that year’s Corvette without giving him recognition or compensation. He was successful in the effort, and was awarded a judgment that allowed him to live the rest of his life in comfort.

Re: Name That Car
I understand your reservation about admitting to using Google to solve puzzles Stephen. In cases such as these I can convince myself that it is legitimate. After all, that is where many of the questions originate. So, armed with your clue about the T top and the dispute with Chevrolet I discovered that the marque was TASCO (The American Sportscar Company) the designer was Gordon Buehrig and the coachbuilder was Derham.
I spent some very pleasurable time reading about the Derham company on this website - http://www.coachbuilt.com/bui/d/derham/derham.htm
The piece on Derham is full of interesting anecdotes. This one, in particular, amused me. -

NickOne particularly demanding Derham customer was the mayor of Palm Beach, Florida. In 1927 Major Warburton ordered a sedan limousine body from Derham for mounting on a new Lincoln chassis. Designed from top to bottom by the Major, the coach featured a special rear seat that allowed the major to travel in an almost horizontal position. He designed a very rectangular body with a very low roof for its day. The rear compartment was to be trimmed entirely in leathers and all exterior brightwork was either eliminated or painted black to match the somber-looking black and grey body. When the completed vehicle was finally delivered to the Major, his wife had a fit as she had no input into the vehicle’s design and totally hated every inch of it. The car was returned to Derham and the horizontal rear seats were replaced with normal ones, the exterior was repainted in canary yellow and the previously de-chromed trim was re-plated.

Re: Name That Car
Fascinating link to Derham. Scrolling through the pictures on the right side of the article it is apparent that almost every vehicle they made, although handsome, had some oddity of appearance. In particular, the parade of roof styles becomes increasingly amusing as they are usually unexpectedly tall or surprisingly low!

Re: Name That Car
re Tedsalads post and Tony's reply, type AXO 88 and Bentley into the DVLA license check and it says 1934 Bentley 3 1/2 litre, black, license not due. License not due is a bit meaningless but if the car made it on to the DVLA records then it is probably still around.
