Name That Car

Hi James

I don't know what the answer is as Tony, who posted the photo on Facebook and is driving the car in the photo (which must be 20 or more years old as Tony is much greyer now), hasn't told us. But following up your lead I have actually found another photo of the car, in a Google images result for the Denver Post, but maddeningly clicking on the thumbnail takes me to a more recent article about a Lexus car, but the photos file name is Crosley-Super-Sports-LF. But googling Crosley Super Sports LF doesn't give me any results. Here's the photo.

I suggested to Tony, who originally posted the photo, that the car is a Crosley Super Sports with a special body and a bigger engine (because the engine obviously needs a lot of cooling and the bonnet line is higher than a standard car) and he said I was correct. Originally built and raced in the 1950s the car has a Ford Flathead 60 engine, it is owned by a friend of Tony's who lives in the Denver area and who restored the car from a rolling shell. Well done to James for identifying it, I had a feeling that if anyone knew what it was it would be James (and I did give James the credit in my reply to Tony).

It reminds me of the cars you would see on the front cover of Popular Mechanics with a heading “Build This Sports Car For $200!”. Great to see it restored.
