On the Piston Heads forum they've been debating what this car is since 2015 and still no-one knows.

An early TVR perhaps a Taimar although the rear window looks different but may have been an earlier one

No TVR there I think, especially as the Taimar was introduced in 1976. That photo was taken in 1962.

Nobody seems to be able to identify this since it the Mystery Car Competition in Classic and Sportscar's Feb '16 issue.

It's been debated here before - I think earlier in this thread - so I won't be the first to point out that the rear end of the car looks poorly photoshopped.

It was not photoshopped. The pic was taken from a book which was published years ago (before Photoshop).
The future ain’t what it used to be.

That doesn't mean it wasn't altered though, does it? Anyone with airbrush skills could have modified it - in the days before Photoshop, that was the way that "artists impressions" were used to assess how a car might look before it was ever built.

The last time it was discussed here, people commented on the unreal cartoon-like appearance of the rear end, and how the lower clothing of the people behind it seemed a different shade of dark grey exactly where the rear of a longer vehicle would have been. And the strange line of light underneath the rear end does not look real at all.

The doors are gull wing and the rear wheel arch is too close to the door to be Dart

The FX4 shares a few front suspension components with the Jensen 541S, CV8 and mk 1 (V8) interceptor - however don't be tempted to use the kingpins as these will fit but will change the camber angle!

Some FX3s (not a typo) can also be a source of 541R and 541S overriders - two sizes were used so make sure you source the longer ones.

That pic definitely rings a bell. Something about a Le Mans destined one off that never made it to the track ( any track). The styling was inspired by the Reliant Zabre and presumably the Merc SLR. IIRC it must have been in a motoring mag from the late seventies and in B&W.
