Mk III Interceptors full restored by the factory.

Post by PaulMcElhinney »

Having spent the last few days cleaning a beautiful factory restored Mk III Interceptor I began musing over how many vehicles the factory actually restored. When I say factory I am including Jensen Parts and Service, Jensen Cars Ltd and Jensen Car Company Ltd. I'll kick it off with two.

This is 2240/1777, sold by the factory to a new owner in 1991. It was a full restoration, the owner saw his car in bare metal and then "spec'd" it. He was offered walnut door cappings which were not on the car when he collected it. However so eager was he to take the car he settled for the door cards that were fitted. It has a Gear Vendors overdrive fitted. Apart from the later fusebox it seems fairly original. This car can be seen in the factory on p. 168 of the Tipler book "Jensen Interceptor, the Complete Story." It is registered NGJ 829P and is wearing its original Saba blue paintwork.

On Stephen's photos here is a picture of MHE 87M that a pleasant couple brought along to the 2009 International. It had had a full factory rebuild, even sporting the S4 badge on the grille. It has the body coloured headlight surrounds that Jensen were fitting in the late 80s. For my part I think they're awful. It looks like this car has the electric recaros that Jensen were fitting to S4 cars at that time.

Then count also those Jensens (if there any) which were restored by Martin Robey - they acquired all moulds, factory leftovers, technologies etc.

You can add my convertible to the list. 2340-1840. Very similar colours to the saloon in the second post. Plenty of images under members cars and in the JOC mag aRticle a couple of years ago.

I quite like them. Actually I managed to source a pair (unpainted) but never figured out how to mount them. The visible screws on the original ones never appealed to me.

2240/1779 was fully restored by the factory. It is shown in the Tipler book bearing the original registration number of OBC 739P. I suspect that this number has since been transferred off because it does not produce a result when you perform a DVLA taxation enquiry. Originally aruba red, painted blue when restored.

Can anyone help as to whether the new RICHARD Calver book has information on factory restorations?
