Being quite experienced with towing, a Toyota RAV 4 is not really suitable for towing anything more than a small to medium sized caravan. From Toyota
(750kg is the unbraked legal limit anyway).RAV4 is an SUV with masses of get up and go. It's built to deliver whatever you ask of it, wherever you drive it. Towing capacity depends on which engine and transmission type you choose: 2.2L AWD diesel models offer a towing capacity of 750kg (unbraked) and 1000kg (braked).
When I collected my Daimler (weight 1850kg + trailer 650kg = 2500kg) I used my Range Rover (weight 2100kg) with self leveling air suspension and which is a vehicle specifically designed for doing such kinds of work. Although the towing limit on the RR is specified as 3500kg (4000kg if close coupled braking is fitted), I found it very hard work towing something that heavy. Even with trailer braking, stopping all that mass required considerable care and planning.
