Mine was a saloon. Always thought it was well balanced styling-wise. In the metallic grey.

Not many about in reasonable condition it seems.

Dont forget the Astra GTE 16v and the same engine in the first Calibra's, properly quick cars and in there time had very good handling. The later 16v engine though on paper had similar power made the Calibra no quicker that the average rep mobile.

Well, as Kev has taken my first choice (Droop Snoot Firenza), the only red car I would want to own would be a Rover Vitesse SD1 Twin Plenum.

Hang on, plus a Rover 820 Vitesse hatchback in Nightfire Red

I always fancied a sunbeam rapier when I was younger, I liked the way the front and back windows went down revealing a huge front to back opening as they were pillarless .

I would still love a Willys or ford jeep, there must still be one lurking in some barn in the east Anglian countryside left to a poor farmer after the 8th USAAF moved out. ( no guilt attached here though ).

Well, George I was offered a very proper ex-8th USAAF jeep, still have phots of it, lovely lovely bloke-ex mob, being a tit I passed as it was a ford!!!
Droopy is cool, come on Stu, why didn't you go VX2300GLS!!
Sunbeam H120, I love those, the interior is mega-so is Hunter GLS.
PYM- mate that Marina is nails, I mean proper, made me feel a bit silly nice!

I'm an obvious VX man, so a 2300 Magnum will trump RS 2 / Mex etc.
VX 490 will trump everything Ford ever bolted 4 doors on, or 2 really- its that good.
If I were rich I'd build Big Bertha, onlt 2 cars I love are called thus- one is a rep-co Holden Ventora- very very angry nutter super saloon, driven by big Gerry Marshall- what a driver (capri, Rover SD1's) 'only here for the beer' awesome!

1725 SS Aggro, pukka
SD1 V8-S (teddy bear seats & matt black- f-u trim!)
Ren-woir 5 Gordini
Every slant 4 VX- yup even the Viva the skin flint ordered with big engine, but nowt else!
But, VX490, 5 spd rare & was serious-so much so it was downgraded as the new Carlton range was inferior!

Fiat 131
Fiat strada arbarth
Ford tina IV 2.0 s (esp in kermit is ill green, matt black rear panel)
Ford 'tina V 2.0 GLS (thats rare, along with fish net recaro's)

Austin 3 liter
Authin vdp 4 litre
Saab sonnet
Davrian mk 1V
Mini 1275 GT
Austin 1275GT
Hillman avanger top hat
" " Tiger & 11
Sunbeam H120 (baby barracuda)
Sunbeam stiletto
Humber septre (hunter shape)
Morris marina- all, well I hate the iTAL, but that only my thing! Tc is king though!, Mumford, well your a god!!!!
Well we said VX.
Cav 2000gl what a nice car.
Royale, I wanted dad to buy a used one, it has a whits cross on the grill, so why not?!
Mk11 cav, the SR & I. White with black lower paint, chris cross alloys, I'd go booted saloon, rather than more usefull hatch!
Mk11 cav CD- trim made a Ghia-X Grany look a bit pony!
VX Royale coupe- proper.
Calibra 4x4 turbo- that was serious- not 2.8 capri enough for me!
Opel manta GTE
Gilbern Invader- not un cool, but deffo unknown.
Renault 20/30 TX
"" 17 GTL
"" 15 GTL
MG Metro/turbo
Not really un cool to say, but was a g.pleasure not long ago............3.0 Capri. Or my 'problem' 2.8 injector- I think this is the best modern coupe saloon ever, 280 Brookie- hmmmm.

a few years ago, a similar thread would have Jensen in it, the fact this thread had legs proves how 'we' like what we like.
Or we'd all cash in & go Pancin horse maybe!
Great input, enjoyed reading others 'problems'!!

That Bond minicar is something I hadn't seen before, it looks rather nice.
A Commer Cob van was my Dad's first car.
He added side windows & we called it a Hillman Husky.
He did that very skillfully.
I passed my driving test in it just one week after my 17th birthday.
I had been driving it on a disused aerodrome before that. (Since I was 13.)
But boy, did those old Rootes cars rust!
The front wings and sills were bubbling through with rust after only 2 or 3 years.

there really is some great old cars mentioned there,
that orange TC marina of your mates looks a real cracker whats the spec on it history etc,
i thought for a while jensen was part of the rootes group some have similar looking fronts and certainly the same degree of rusting within a very short time frame

Another nice car from the sixties was the Ford Corsair 2000E.
My uncle owned one and I used to earn pocket money by washing it at week-ends.
In doing so, I used to drive it around the block, although at age 16 I shouldn't have been doing that.
I remember the V4 engine was rough at tickover, due to its iherent imbalance, but it felt better at speed.
I tried to persuade him to buy a Rover V8, or an XJ6 or an Interceptor, but he was stuck on Fords for the last 30 years of his life.

This is a great topic and many lovely cars have already been mentioned that I would happily drive every day.

Ive got a real soft spot for the more common cars from the 70s and although most people look back on them as rusty and unreliable as well as poorly made I seem to like them more the older I get. My current daily driver is a Vauxhall 2300S but I also have an itch to own a Princess  there ive said it now I think I have sunk lower than most with this aspiration and whilst talking about wedges I also have a yearning for an SD1.

The early XJ6 was a lovely car.
With its combination of soft springing and firm damping, the car just seemed to float along regardless of the road surface.
And those banks of rocker switches looked beautiful.
I never owned one, wish I had.
Just following one, I was aware of its wide track as the bodywork didn't much overhang the wheels, like with the E-type.

Best XJ6 I had was a 1972 2.8 manual with overdrive and webasto cost me £150 for the car and £160 for a new exhaust, had been rebuilt by the retired engineer that owned it and covered 10K since, exhaust dropped off as I drove it home, my parents heard me coming from a mile away and told me they knew it had to be me! fitted the exhaust on the drive and put it in for an MOT, passed first time with no advisories. That car pulled a 7 tonne breakdown truck out of a ditch and bump started it along a gravel lane, and I never felt a thing!
Sold it to the Jag dealer who owned the truck for good money but wish I still had it as I found out later it was one of only 500 built, I wondered why he was so keen to buy it from me.

The car I always fancied as a lad was a Riley Pathfinder.

My local garage used to look after one, it seemed to be in there with issues with the servo whenever my GT6 was in for work (which was quite often :D ).

I seem to remember them telling he they had handling issues when they first came out and they used to call it the Riley Hedgefinder. :(

As far as the Austin Princess is concerned, I remember going in an Ambassador (hatchback replacment) that was used as a Taxi, there was lots of room and it was a very comfortable car.
We were next to the Princess Club at the NEC show, it was good to see the 'ordinary' cars being well looked after.

I've always had a soft spot for ugly ducklings (I would mention a C-V8 but I'd better not :D ), the car I really do want though is a Bristol 412.
