I hope it's not me that you're referring to?Joe Schiavone wrote:It is great to have a sense of humor
I'm perfectly serious in all my utterances and would not wish to be thought of as light-hearted
And the word is humour not humor unless you mean a syncopated version of one of these
And as for yew Wall Ace................. Thank you, I knew I'd put it somewhere.Wallace wrote:It's over thereBarrie wrote:.Anyone seen one of these.........

The German word is Humor, absolutely without any Umlauts.Barrie wrote:...

We even have words for things we don't have in Germany.

Re: Unwanted Heat
It's inexplicable how the Germans have gained a reputation for being humourless.
I find them to be some of the funniest people in the world.

The athlete arrived at the Olympic Games check in desk, with a very long thin parcel under one arm.
"Oh", said the clerk at the desk, "Are you a pole vaulter?"
"Nein", said the athlete, "I am German, but how did you know my name is Walter?"

Re: Unwanted Heat
I wonder whether we want it back?
It was magnificent right up to the 1950's apart from a big black stain, since when it got some chips around the edge and now it's cracked across the middle.
Maybe we could have Canada or Australia back instead?

Most of Canada is too cold for half the year.
It's a huge territory with only 36 million people in it, but one third of them live within the Greater Toronto Area, so avoid that.
Calgary is nice, being close to the Rockies, but it gets down to -40, if only for a few days in February. Montreal has lost its charm and is too crowded now. Major traffic jams.
They have their very own nut-job eco-terrorist, David Suzuki. He should have stuck to making motor-bikes.
Politically, it's boring, so much squabbling between provinces and since pretty-boy Trudeau-the-younger has come to power, he's now hated almost as much as his father was.
He's imposing carbon taxes, as somehow, fleecing people improves the environment, but how it does this has not been explained.
Australia is nice, but beware of those previously mentioned sharks, snakes, killer-kangaroos and man-eating-koalas. And Danni Minogue.
My vote would be for the USA if I had to live somewhere else. Especially now Trump is coming to power, as that's going to be so entertaining.
I would want to live in an ocean-view mansion on the West Coast, perhaps Malibu.
It was good enough for Charlie Harper.

Ooo-er!
It all sounds terrifying, especially the idea of living near Charlie Harper.
Maybe I should set my sights a little lower and propose taking back Calais as the mayor seems pretty fed-up with it.
If only Admiral Byng had done as he was told we could all go and get a bit of British sun on Minorca.
Such a difficult life with so many possibilities.

I don't think we want it back. Ever since Samuel Adams and his cronies emptied those tea chests into Boston Harbour they've never been able to make tea properly and to this day persist in forcing you to add the tea to the water when everyone knows that it should be other way round and the water should be poured onto the tea!Barrie wrote:I wonder whether we want it back?
Samuel Adams is awful beer as well.
