Is there anyone out there who might know whether it is possible to re-register a 1960's car imported to the UK in 1977 and given a 77 "R" plate? I would like to get an age related plate on the car which would now be the norm.
Thanks
Richard

Re: Re-registering and old import
Hi Richard,
Unfortunately not. If a car was "correctly" registered at the time of its registration the DVLA will not assign a different number to the car. This has been raised a few times by the FBHVC with the DVLA and this is the ruling. Of course a 1960s car given an "R" registration is not really correct but from a DVLA point of view the car was given a registration when it was registered following the procedures of the time even if today that registration seems daft.
To get a "period correct" registration the only option for you is to buy a suitable registration and have that put on the car.

Thank you Chris...sounds fairly typical of our authorities. Nothing to stop me buying an earlier year plate though which is good news.
