Derek Chapman's P66 convertible

Post by zacmarshall »

This is Derek Chapman's P66 convertible

Image

The P66 convertible was broken up in 1968, the fixed head car was saved, being owned by early cars expert Mike Williams for a number of years before being bought by Derek Chapman.

These are some of the remains with Derek's P66 hardtop in the background.

Derek actually has the doors, instruments, prop-shaft, half-shafts and a few other bits and pieces.

Some photos of the car at the 1965 Earls Court Motor Show.

Brilliant, well done Derek and to Zac for just getting it into November by 10 hours and 10 minutes.
Not sure if Derek is taking me up on my suggestion as to how to recreate the convertible. Bury the parts in the garden, apply fertiliser and water. Grow your own. Jensens, always green eh?

Lovely machines and a credit to Derek. I've heard there is one in a barn near Penzance

Should it not by rights be called the Jensen Interceptor and not the P66? I notice on the motor show car the badge on the front does say Interceptor and the announcements from Jensen called it the Interceptor.

Yes, I think it theoretically should. However, I'll leave you to work out how to explain the difference between this Interceptor and the early Interceptor and the Touring designed Interceptor...

In the same way that when the new Thames crossing bridge opened some years ago they had a naming competition (winner: Queen Elizabeth II bridge). Someone suggested that we might as well name it what everyone would call it anyway: the Dartford Tunnel Bridge!
"Now that chassis number is particularly interesting ‘cos it’s the one after the one before, which is the one after mine, not many people know that"

By Karl Ludvigsen from the New York Auto Show in 1978 (from the Revs Institute). With a vicious dog guarding the car!

What happened to the INTERCEPTOR badge from the convertible? must be a one off.
