SAVE THE DATE: European Jensen Clubs Summer Rally. JULY 2nd - JULY 6th 2023
To follow on immediately from the 100th Anniversary Le Mans Classic event we will be holding an All European Jensen Clubs Summer Rally in the Loire Valley. Members of all Jensen Clubs in Europe and further afield as well are all invited.
In brief we will be based at the ROYAL ABBEY OF FONTEVRAUD, not far from Saumur, arriving on Sunday 2nd July. A buffet style meal will be provided on Sunday evening.
On Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday we plan to arrange drive outs through the French countryside with visits to chateaux (with guides) and to a vineyard. On Wednesday evening we will have a gala banquet prior to departing on Thursday morning. Saumur is home to Le Cadre Noir, the elite French horse riding school. Also a tank museum and a mushroom museum (yes, there really is a museum for the humble mushroom). Other attractions include hot air balloon rides over the Loire, gardens and even a distillery so plenty to do for everyone.
More details will be published both here and on the JOC website as we develop the event.
If you want to join us on this summer rally, don’t delay, register your interest by Friday 21st October 2022 so that we can start to make arrangements with hotels etc. Contact Chris Reed & Shaun Winfield by email to JE2023@joc.org.uk.

JENSEN EUROPEAN RALLY
SUNDAY 2ND July – Thursday 6th July 2023
The Royal Abbey of Fontevraud, listed as an Historic Monument in 1840, and, as part of the Loire Valley, as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2000 is situated where the three regions of Poitou, Anjou and Touraine meet, is one of the largest surviving monastic cities from the Middle Ages.
Since its creation nearly a thousand years ago by an eccentric monk, the Abbey has always been a ‘singular foundation’. A place of social diversity. The Abbey was run by an abbess, who gave shelter to men and women in the four priories: Sainte-Marie for the ‘contemplatives’, Sainte-Marie-Madeleine for the lay sisters, Saint-Jean de l’Habit for the monks, and Saint-Lazare for nuns caring for lepers.
The 13 hectares over which the various buildings are spread illustrate the importance of an Abbey that was directly attached to royalty. The reclining effigies of Eleanor of Aquitaine, of her husband Henry 2nd and of their son Richard the Lionheart, seen in the Abbey Church, are a reminder of this glorious past. To stroll along the cloister, to visit the chapter house or the kitchens of the Royal Abbey, gives an understanding of the daily lives of the nuns who lived here.
Not forgetting its later incarnation, in the 19th century, as one of the toughest prisons in France …
This is the setting for our European Rally for 2023.
The 4-star Fontevraud L’Hotel is located in the priory of this historic monument and is just 100m from the main Fontevraud Abbey. A visit to the Abbey is included for all guests. There is free on site parking. We have exclusively reserved accommodation at the Hotel. Members of the Jensen community from across Europe are all invited.
Arriving on Sunday 2nd July 2023 we will be treated to an informal 3-course buffet dinner with aperitif and champagne included.
On Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday we will be arranging drive outs to local cultural attractions and where appropriate we will attempt to arrange dedicated group tours.
On our final evening on Wednesday 5th July, we will host a gala 4-course dinner from Michelin chef Thibaut Ruggeri, again with aperitif, wine and café included, prior to our departure on Thursday morning.
The cost for this event is expected to be approximately 1200 euros based on 2 people sharing accommodation. Breakfast on all 4 mornings is also included. There will be a reduction of approximately 230 euros for single occupancy. Excluded are lunches, dinner on Monday and Tuesday evenings and admission to local museums, chateau etc., and for those coming from the UK; any cross-channel ferries.
If you would like to sign up for this, don’t delay, contact Chris Reed or Shaun Winfield on our dedicated email address je2023@joc.org.uk.

Hello Chris,
Sounds good. Just one point for clarification: is the estimated cost €1200 per person based on two people sharing, or €1200 for two people?

The estimated cost for two people is 1200 euros, not 1200 euros per person

1850 km from my place just to get there, not to mention local drive outs and the way back. At 14 mpg and say €2.00 per litre, it's gonna cost... oh, better not to know

I do realise we are very late but we have great interest in this meeting and if at all possible we would like to attend. Are there still possibilities?

I unfortunately won't be able to make it, but it sounds like an excellent event.
