Where are the CV8 & 541 owners?

Apart from the few CV8s and 541s owned by club officials and moderators on here, I wondered what happened to all the other CV8 and 541 owners? Illustrated perhaps by the minimal response to the CV8 registrar’s superb 60th anniversary plans? By the way has there ever been a similar event for 541s?

In 2014 there was a big event for the 541 60th birthday at Gaydon



Apparently there were 31 541s plus many other models, plus those attending without cars, including a US owner who came over specially.

That year at the NEC show all the displayed cars were 541s.

Shows what can be done with the right format and venue, 31 of the 541s, 50 for the CV8 50th, maybe more at the 60th. I wonder why only a fraction of the owners are on the forum or at the international. Food for thought

I sometimes look at the users at the bottom of the main page currently it shows "In total there are 49 users online :: 5 registered, 0 hidden and 44 guests (based on users active over the past 5 minutes)". the problem it is converting the casual viewer into a regular viewer then into a full JIOC member. On the Mk1 survivors site I have a counter that shows hits each week/ month. if I don't mention a change to the site on here, or facebook, the numbers are down but once I mention the site the numbers rise dramatically; one of the breakdown stats says if it is a first time user or returning user. Perhaps some of the non members visiting the site and reading this could say why they do not apply to become full members of the forum or JOC.

A quick count up of active and non-active users on the forum shows

5476 users, that's everyone from the beginning.

3690 users have never posted anything.

312 have only ever posted once

There are 115 pages of user names each with 50 names, listing them in order of posts with people with 0 posts on the first page the people who have posted in 3 figures start at page 109 and people who have posted in 4 figures start on page 114. The forum isn't as active as you might think, if by active we mean having lots of people contributing.

There are around 20 C-V8 owners who regularly post on the forum and perhaps another 10 who post occasionally, compared to the overall number of active users that's not too bad.

For comparison, there are 590 members of the Facebook C-V8 page and probably no more than a dozen active contributors.
