Just keep being cautious. A good friend of mine has had both jabs and has recently had covid and been very ill with it. He’s a very fit and healthy guy but it knocked him out for more than two weeks.

Given the continuing uncertainties we have decided to postpone the Open Day yet again.

The new date is 21st August. The gives the current 4 week extension of restrictions time to complete and if the Government deems necessary (and we all hope not) a further 4 week extension.

An update flyer will be included in the next magazine issue.

Bridge Classics, who restored Joerg Huesken's 541R's, have agreed to come along and give a presentation on restoring 541 type cars and they will also be bringing one of the project cars they have. I'm sure some of what they know and can tell us will also apply equally to C-V8s. I am also looking to have a leather restoration specialist come along to talk about restoring the trim. If anyone has any other ideas on a technical topic that they would like, please let me know and I will see if we can fulfill it.

Copied from the Club's Website (I am assuming these details are still correct):

JOC Open Day

Meet the committee & technical discussions.

We are hoping to arrange some technical sessions and presentations during the day.

Club members are invited to submit questions or topics for discussion (either technical or non-technical) to the Secretary – send an email to gs@joc.org.uk and we’ll try to get an answer.

Complimentary welcome refreshments will be available from 10.15am in the Shuttle Suites. Afternoon tea from 3.15pm.

Reduced price entry to the National Space Centre at £10 per person (saving of £5) is also available through the JOC (advance purchase is required for this option).

For your Complimentary Parking Pass and reduced-price entry ticket(s) please send an email to the General Secretary at gs@joc.org.uk

This is not exactly correct. The latest information was published in a flyer with the last magazine issue.
Parking passes are not needed, we have exclusive use of the overflow carpark area which is to one side of Exploration Drive (which bisects the entire car parking area).
Unfortunately since publication of the flyer Bridge Classics have had to withdraw as Gordon has just undergone a course of chemotherapy.
The presentation on leather care, restoration and so on by Cropredy will be in the morning at 11am and in the afternoon we'll have a short fun quiz with a couple of prizes on offer!

For those that took part in the quiz, I am reliably informed that the parrot's name was Perry.

A good day out. Nice to see people and cars again.

Thanks to Chris R for organising.

Bit damp on the way back.

Just in case you doubted that these astronauts had "The Right Stuff", that second photo is of a Gemini test craft. No airbags, no padding. The test pilot was dangled in this tin can under a helicopter until it reached 10,000 feet. At that point it was released and, hopefully, an inflatable wing would let him control the aircraft down to a tripod landing in the desert or dry lake. Three brave men repeated this several times; in the real spaceship re-entry, the folded wing would have to deploy after they re-entered the atmosphere! A splashdown on the ocean proved easier and cheaper in the end.
