Post by Clive Bishop »

Since the time of me arranging things for this evening and now the process of car parking at the port has changed.

Please can you contact the cruise line on the telephone number for groups and book and pay for your car parking at the port. This is £10 and they will need the vehicle details and registration.

Some of you have done this already as they asked as soon as the changes occurred, but for early bookers you may not have been asked about this.

There is no rush as long as you do it 14 days beforehand, in other words by mid November.

Unfortunately Simon Millard has had to cancel but we still have a few places left for anyone that wants to come along - you don't have to be from the Wessex region.

For those already booked, if you have not arranged car parking at the port for the evening then please contact the cruise line with details of your car - make, colour and registration ...this needs to be done by the third week of November.

Have a few options for the afternoon for those getting to the Bristol area early, which incudes an option for visiting Concorde at Filton, some ladies are already lining up some retail therapy for the afternoon, but once I know who is coming earlier I can narrow down the options for the mend / women or both.

If you could post here or PM me, I would appreciate it.

Hi,
I received our tickets via email today along with a car parking ticket.

They've put my wife and I on different tables and have put my postcode down as my car registration number!...But other than that it's fine!

Cheers,

Hi Clive,

I am most definitely interested in the retail therapy or a Bubbly catch up. I’m sure Karan will have some views on that bit but if there is something else happening that he can attend he will not have a problem with that as for timing just need to know what time the plans of meeting up is and we will look at our route. Thanks looking forward to the dinner and our final catch up for the year.

We also received our ticket and parking all looks in order however we may have to change our car registration as of yet to confirm which car we will be taking.

For the gents, after we have deposited the ladies (if they choose) at the retail centre - maybe around midday / early afternoon - Cribbs Causeway then you are welcome to join John and I as we are going to go to the Concorde Museum down the road (as it was built in Bristol) and then subject to time may well call by a few high end auto places on the way back to the shopping centre to pick you all up at about 1600 or 1630...….

Just some thoughts...….

Concorde sounds good!....Has anyone actually flown on it?

My best chance was back in the 1980s when they used to run "Supersonic" day trips to places like the Monaco Grand Prix.

I always regret not having gone on one of those trips, which used to be advertised in motoring magazines!...

Sorry but you did ask, and I know others may have, but Diane and I managed to be on one of the last flight back in September 2003 from New York to London.

Best money ever spent.

And I did the Schneider race anniversary flight -twice around the Isle of Wight and then out for the supersonic flight. First pass was slow with all the landing gear and flaps down, then for the second pass, as the pilot put it, "Military Flying" when he hit the boost button there were air hostesses tumbling down the aisle. One of the passengers was very old (90's) never flown before but had seen the original race so wanted to fly the route.

For those coming to Bristol early, looks like there are at least four of us going to the British Aerospace Museum on the Saturday afternoon...……

If anyone wants to come then please book here: https://aerospacebristol.org/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Then let me know that you have done that so we can work out timings to drop off those with a shopping preference at Cribbs Causeway and then head for Filton for the museum.

Everyone had a good time (I hope or at least they said so) even with the corny Christmas cabaret show - but it was a laugh, even if like a few others we learnt that these cabin walls, like on ferries are thin - I for one learnt some new words that a women can say to a man and that my Bristol accent isn't as bad as I thought in comparison, all at 0300 in the morning, but we can't all be saints and enjoy ourselves at the same time.

It was different and the dancing shoes were definitely out especially amongst the ladies present.

Some pictures below of the night and also a afternoon side trip that Karan, John and I did to the Aerospace Museum, photos courtesy of Lindsey Bishop and John Pym

Incidentally for those that were in our group that mentioned the weather when we left on Sunday. The ship was die to travel to Honfleur in France on the Sunday afternoon at 1600, but actually didn't leave Portbury until 0330 this morning and so by breakfast was ploughing head first into 25/30 mph winds passing Bude…..think we got the best deal......don't remember the ship moving when we were on it :D :D :D
