Dartmouth Park West Bromwich, 18th May

Post by Kevin Birch »

Just re entering this thread with the full location and date on the title to try to entice participants.

Currently got a couple of Jensens, Jags and a Healey 3000.

Come on ladies and gents, more cars please, and a chance to visit Kelvin Way and the admin block at Carters Green if you want.

Lovely park to visit in our club's home town, with relaxed times, turn up for about 11:00, go by about 15:00.

Contact me for any queries.

Just to echo what Kevin has already said, a truly lovely location right slap bang in the centre ofJensen country, I believe this will be our 4th attendance? Well worth traveling to, as Kevin said, come on folks, let's give West Bromwich a good turnout.

What are the arrangements for parking? And is the Carters Green admin block open for inside inspection?

There is a car park at the park, accessed off Salters lane. We haven't got access to the admin block, we usually just drive to it, and park the cars for a few minutes outside for photos, as it is actually private property. Usually the place is deserted on a Saturday, so no harm done, and I believe the owner doesn't mind.

Hi Kev. Sorry I can't be there as I'm moving house mid May and it's not a straight move as I've got to clear the house out I'm buying. So will be snowed under. Cheers Alistair

Alistair, poor excuse for not turning up, surely driving a Jensen takes precedence over everything else, even moving house!!
Thanks for letting me know, perhaps next year.
Have a few Jensens, a couple of Jags, AH 3000 and a A40 sports turning up, the more the merrier, so anybody not decided, you can just turn up, 10am onwards, entrance on Reform St.

Many thanks to all who turned up, it ended up being quite a nice day, with some nice cars. Jez, a new member, turned up with his superb MK2 in a non-standard, but stunning blue colour, Dave Colbourne and Sharron with their White Mk3, Alan Jones with his FF, Simon and Alison Holloway with one set of twins in tow in his US spec Coupe and Paul with his Austin A40 Sports, which created a great deal of interest.

A quick local tour of Jensen history , the admin building at Carters Green, then to Kelvin way for a few piccies, before we all set off on our various journeys home.

We were graced with the presence of Phil Grice, now in his '80s, who was the 541 test driver and full of interesting stories of his time at Jensen.

All in all quite a successful day, being made welcome again by the friends of Dartmouth Park.

Thanks Kev for organising today, as always we we're made so welcome by old friends and some new. For our coupé it has been such a journey to get back to her birth place having been off the road since being imported back from South Carolina in 1989 with only 13,540 miles on her clock to return to Kelvin way today with 13,778 miles on her clock! 43 years since she last saw black country soil. We returned home safely having covered 287 miles which is admirable after 30 plus years dormant, such atestimony for the marque.
Simon, Alison, Bill and Callum.

Thanks for the warm welcome!

It was great to get out in the Jensen and meet a few like minded, friendly enthusiasts in a relaxed atmosphere at the home of Jensen!

Thanks Guys!

Simon, glad you all got home safely, and the old girl performed OK, the Coupe too  Always a pleasure to catch up with you and Alison, you welcomed me into the club when I was Jensen virgin, still out there looking for a car, I'm glad I'm now doing the same for our new members, and getting them out there to share their cars.
Jez good to meet you today, I meant to talk to you about Eddie Harrigan, who usually attends the event. He has the MK2 Earls Court show car, which is totally original, and also in excellent condition. It may be worth catching up with him at a future event to see if there are any pointers to routes you may want to go with your car, although I can't see how you could improve on it at the moment.
