All, the shipping of cars via Immingham does save time and thus sustenance costs under way. Air plus minibus to pick up and shipping of the car will be around 450 pounds each way using Ryanair to Sandefjord.

As far as passports and insurance that is governed by other international agreements.

We are looking into organising an international event here in Norway but time is running out and we may have to move it to 2020.

All, I am finally able to spend some time and effort on preparing for a 2020 tour in Norway. Trying to cater for many different needs I propose the following route based on a few assumptions.

1) There will not be a ferry between UK and Norway
2) Some people have already done Bergen and vicinity
3) Some will want to do/redo Bergen
4) Some will want to go further north
5) Taking the car on “Hurtigruta” for a return leg will be popular and probably needs to be booked fairly quickly.


The map here shows starting from Brevik. The total mileage in Norway will be 1898km + return from Bergen once the boat trip is done. For the UK lot the car can be shipped from Immingham to Brevik. Brevik is easily accessible by shuttle bus from Torp (Sandefjord) airport. For those coming from the Continent going from Denmark to Larvik (nearby Brevik) is a few hours by ferry.

• E134 from Brevik with a stop in Skare nestled between Hardangervidda national park and Folgefonna (glacier) national park gives some pretty good scenery and entertaining roads.
• Then onwards to Laerdal in Sognefjord. (Doesn’t get better IMHO.) https://en.sognefjord.no/
• Continuing to Dombaas which is slap bang in between several national parks in the mountains.
• Next is Trondheim, with IIRC the second largest catherdral: Nidarosdomen. https://www.nidarosdomen.no/en/ndr And of course other thing there and en route.
• Next Mo I Rana holds the “Arctic Circle raceway” where we could cater for a “track day” if there is any interest. NB! Needs to be planned well in advance! As we will be in the land of the midnight sun racing will be in daylight no matter when. https://www.acr.no/
• Final destination Narvik where Lofoten can be visited. https://lofoten.info/lofoten
• Of course if anybody want to continue on their own to North Cape (Nordkapp) that is possible. http://www.nordkapp.no/no/

• Return to Bergen with “Hurtigruta”, taking your car with you. Needs to be booked well in advance. https://www.hurtigruten.co.uk/ (They offer various cruises as well but in this context it is the fixed route taking you from Narvik (or North Cape) via the tradidital stops along the coast all the way down to Bergen.)

I would like your comments quickly as we need to fix the dates and bookings soon.

Return trip through Sweden East coast- Stockholm-Göteborg (ferry Helsingborg/bridge Malmö)-Denmark (ferry Rodbyhavn-Puttgarden)-Germany-Netherlands (ferry HvH/R´dam/IJmuiden)/ Begium (ferry Oostende)/France (ferry Dunkerque/ferry or tunnel Calais)?

This looks to be a fantastic trip. I need to find all the maps from last time! Personally, I'm not keen on shipping a car so would need to look at driving from Rotterdam. It all depends on timing as it is Le Mans Classic in early July.

It looks good, but which way to get home.
I'm like Helen, drive from Rotterdam, but also look at getting the boat from holland to Oslo.
Could always spend a days drive to get the boat from Holland to Oslo, which is always an option, either way your looking at possible 24 hours traveling to get there.
Only working half a day now.

I would rather drive through Germany, Denmark and Sweden either using the bridge or the ferries from Denmark to Sweden. Ok, it is a long drive but very nice scenery in Denmark and Sweden. You will be a long time from home anyway. It may be cheaper than a cruise along the coast of Norway. Hotels are usually not a problem if you arrive out of the blue.

Out of interest how expensive is Norway, is it comparable with Switzerland, or more/less expensive, as this year's Swiss trip may be a bench mark as to whether I could afford it.


Prices are comparable to the UK and only slightly higher than in the rest of Europe. Anyway if you are prepared to travel that many miles the extra living costs if any are negligible.

Simple 3 star accommodation, 18 rooms, safe parking in a square behind the hotel in this charming and very picturesque historic town. Vry friendly and helpful staff. Most importantly though is the excellent restaurant.
I stayed in the hotel a couple of years ago and it was a fantastic experience.

All, Brexit seems to have made UK contingent put their plans on hold? So far seven people expressing serious interest. (The title "Norway 2019" may have had something to do with it, but still.......)

Experience has taught me that from those showing serious interest somewhere between 50% and 30% actually make the trip (or do) that is planned. That brings the number down to a conservative two or three people. Further, the UK contingent tends to outnumber the rest by a comfortable margin, this time they are a minority. So pushing the trip out to 2021 is the way to go. I will comment into the European meeting 2021/2022 thread.

I think 2012 will be the 50th anniversary of the JOC so the calendar may be a little crowded? :roll:
