Hi all
I am attending the Goodwood Revival on Saturday with my my Mk II Interceptor and I have pre-booked a space in the Tax-Exempt car park (but not yet received car park ticket). I will be coming from the Winchester area. Does anyone know the best route in from Winchester trying to avoid traffic jams. Just fitted a manual overide switch for the fans just in case.
Phil
I think you have two basic options:
1. Head cross country to Petersfield, then down to Goodwood on the B2141
2. Take the A27 around the south side of Chichester

Either way should be fine BUT, the last couple of miles and into the car park can be a nightmare. Therefore, try to go AS EARLY AS POSSIBLE!
9:00am or before preferably!

Others may have different experiences but I have found the A27 to be very slow to get in. Quite a long queue from both directions so I would not recommend that way in.
In the last couple of years I have found the quickest way is to approach from Singleton up over the downs and then turn left as you go down the hill and go past the stands. When they direct traffic to turn right down New Barn Hill at the cross roads I ignore that and continue to the A285 then turn right, go down there and then right onto New Road. New Road will be one way and the left side will be for GRRC forward parking and the Revival Car park and the right side will be for the rest of the public. The left side always moves quicker than the right once people have sorted themselves into the correct lane!
I'm not guaranteeing this will be the quickest or best for you though!

Martin R and Chris R,
Thanks for the advice. Heard horror stories about the queues on the A27. I think I'll try Chris_R's route via Singleton and then onto the A285 and finally onto the New Road into the Tax Exempt car park. The Goodwood Revival info shows that last bit of "New Road" (approaching the Tax Exempt car park) as being "closed". Presumably it means it is closed to non-Goodwood traffic and will be open to race goers!

Thanks
Phil

Phil,
I'm attending all three days, the weather forecast suggests your choice of Saturday will be the best of the three.
My prebooked parking passes were in the back of my ticket wallet but are just flimsy slips of paper that are part gummed. You moisten and stick on the windscreen. Easily missed so thought this might help.
Have a great Revival.

The forecast tomorrow looks much better, it was pretty sodden today.

Picknick again, Martin?
When we were going into the tax exempt car park, a car had a problem and about a dozen of us, Alfa, Porsche, Lea Francis, Merc, RR etc were all directed into the Jaguar section, I wanted you to see where I ended up.
I remembered your post and laughed! Hope you had a good time!

Hi all
Had a great day out at the Goodwood Revival today. Just as we got to the entrance I turned onto the main road and found myself behind a Silver/Grey Interceptor. On reaching the Tax Exempt carpark I saw a very muddy, well worn entrance but noticed the Silver/Grey Interceptor crossed the mud with no problem. Well that wont be a problem for my Interceptor I thought and followed. My car began to slide and get bogged down but just made it and I breathed a sigh of relief. Once parked up I wondered across to the Silver/Grey car and said to the owner how come you got across so easily and whereas I nearly got bogged down. Easy he said "this is an FF". Lesson learned - never follow an FF into a muddy field thinking its an Interceptor.

Photo of the FF below. Forgot the guys name but he had driven down from Cumbria which is some effort.

Phil,

Oddly enough, having not seen a single Jensen across the first two days, my departure coincided with a lovely turquoise Mk 3, registration NJL xxxM. I happened to follow him all the way to Chiddingfold where he headed North and I headed West. Another JOC member?

I actually saw your car there and did wonder how you'd ended up with the Jags!

All 3 days had their moments of heavy rain and the mud was a little tricky to drive through :!:
I'd better get my car cleaned, in readiness for the Saxony German tour!

There were Jensens in the Pre-66:

Here they are, surprisingly only C-V8s:

And here are the usual suspects, great picnic at Lavant Corner organised by Zac2 and Martin. I learned a new word: "hamper".

Hervé, where were you? Bubbly was missing.

Suspicious looking East German officers in the background ...
