Hi Kees

I’ve received feedback from the members of the Swiss committee and the unanimous opinion was that we should not postpone our meet. The feeling was that it was far from ideal, but in 2019 even with a month between our meets, it would not change the basic situation.

We’ve been long overdue with an International- 2016 was not possible because of the Turin trip, 2017 was not possible because of the Germany meet. Organization for our meet began early this year, we proposed it to our members at our AGM in March, and our members which didn’t attend the AGM were informed shortly afterwards. We think it’s unfortunate that there are two meets on the continent which are held within a weeks time, or even on the same weekend, and we do not want to detract from your meet in any way. On the other hand, we hope very much that a few of the more adventurous Dutch crew will be joining us nonetheless.

Best regards, Felix

Hello Felix,

Good decision. There will always be events throughout Europe incl. the UK in May/June and September/October. People have to make a choice which they will attend to. There is no way to avoid that. Even here in the Netherlands there are several classic car/old-timer events every weekend to choose from.

Cheers,

Hi Kees,

if you can arrange the Dutch weekend to be the last weekend in September, the UK participants can design a tour incorporating both Dutch and Swiss events - sounds ideal.

thanks

500 miles in 4 days sounds quite reasonable to me, plenty of time to sightsee and take the more scenic routes.

Yep, 500 miles is not so far, especially over a few days. I managed that much in a single day with the Interceptor during last year's Turin trip (for reasons that will not be repeated    ).

I would love to do both events if Dave's suggestion is acceptable to HJG.

Our Autumn Weekend 2018 will be the weekend of the 28th-30th of September.
In a few days time we will visit several hotels in Ostfriesland, the North-West of Germany, and shortly afterwards decide on the hotel and the cost of the entire weekend incl. hotel***/****, lunches, dinners and activities/attractions. As usual we will keep the costs well within reason and have the quality of the food as good as you expect from us.
The Swiss International will be the weekend after, so you may well combine the two events. There is only around 500miles to cover from Ostfriesland to Muhlhouse in 4 days on beautiful scenic roads in Germany and France with plenty of nice cities/towns, hotels/B&B/AirB&B along the way. You can even cover the distance in one day blasting down the Autobahn/Autoroute if you so please.
The number of available rooms will probably be limited to about 35, the same as with earlier Autumn weekends, depending on the choice of the hotel.

Tomorrow and the day after Hans Harting and I are going to visit a number of hotels in Ostfriesland for our Autumn Weekend 2018. We have been sifting through about 40 hotels and came up with 7 for our final choice. What a great help Google Earth is in this process of elimination. Sadly Street View, to have a look around in the area, is not active in Ostfriesland as in large parts of Germany.
All are 3 or 4 star hotels so the accommodation should be fine as it is in most German hotels, with or without stars.
Of main interest will be the parking facilities, food, immediate surrounding, safety of the places and of course the costs.
In a few weeks time we will have made a decision on hotel and pricing for the event.
We will keep you posted.
