Re: Jensen Meeting in Saxony - September 2017
We're now 85 cars and 161 participants registered, booked and confirmed.
We have decided and agreed with the hotels and restaurants that we can only accept another 5 teams and that is it.
So, if anyone is willing to join: Send in the application form as soon as possible, we will definitely NOT have more than 90 cars and 170 people.
Jörg and Jens

Re: Jensen Meeting in Saxony - September 2017
I'm just plotting a tentative route for September. So far I am doing:
Hoek - Arnhem - Winterswijk or Wesel - Hamelin - Trendelburg - Fritzlar / Kassel - Alsfeld - Wartburg.... Chemnitz.
Any insider tips for nice scenic routes for the stretch between Winterwijk and Hamelin, then from Wartburg to Chemnitz?
I'd be glad of suggestions as to good accommodation and restaurants en route too.
All this will be on the back of a breakdown truck probably.....

I would avoid Antwerp if possible, last year I got caught there for hours in traffic.
Personally we are avoiding that area and have several stops planned on route.

I have set out a touristic route most the way from Heerjansdam (5mls from Rotterdam) to the hotel. The scenic part starts around Winterswijk all the way to the hotel and will take 2 or 3 days:Jorrocks wrote:I'm just plotting a tentative route for September. So far I am doing:

Re: Jensen Meeting in Saxony - September 2017
Hi All, we've made a rough plan for the outward and return journey to Saxony. Unfortuately we do not have the expertise of Chris and Shaun. We've merely found hotels by looking at the map. We are open to all suggestions and other ideas. If other members wish to tag along that would be great. We plan to take the ferry to Calais on Wed 13th September staying for 1 night in Hotel Serwir, St Nicholas, Belguim 105 euros for B&B. Thursday 14th we are staying in Wessel as suggested by Peter Bloomberg. We then arrive in Lichtenwalde on Friday 15th and stay 4 nights there departing on Tuesday 19th. We hope to do the Colditz tour which we think is scheduled for the Monday. On Tuesday 19th we join Chris Reed's group in a Hartz mountains hotel. On Friday 22nd we leave for Deurne in the Netherlands. We are staying in an old monastry - Fletcher Klooster Hotel Willibrordhaeghe, Deurne. B&B is £92 per night for a double. We travel from there for the return ferry from Calais to Dover on Saturday 23rd September.
Does that sound like a plan? All imput welcome! Nigel and Sue

Re: Jensen Meeting in Saxony - September 2017
My plan for the event is to catch the overnight from Hull to Rotterdam Wednesday night, and then take in the 3 dams staying over at the Eder on Thursday night.
catching up with everybody on Friday afternoon at the destination, and begin the return on Monday, via Colditz and spending Monday night in Wuppertal, as I've always wanted to see the weird and wonderful monorail. Then off to Rotterdam on the Tuesday night crossing back to Blighty.
Just out of interest, my eldest son is coming with me, and it will be his birthday on the Monday, so would be nice if he had a few birthday cards to remember the trip, he'll be 22.
Nigel if you are staying the Monday night, then I may do that too, then set off for Wuppertal and Home on the Tuesday, haven't booked the ferry yet, so could do another day.

Charlie and I are staying in Ashford on the Wednesday night and heading over on the channel tunnel Thursday morning.
I think a number of other people are doing the same, but not sure who.

Jens has confirmed we are booked in Lichenwalde for 4 nights including the Monday night. It would be good to see you, Kevin, and your son there especially on his birthday. Everyone's plans sounds interesting - looking forward to discussing it in the bar on Friday evening 15th September if not before!

Re: Jensen Meeting in Saxony - September 2017
We are planning on leaving the UK on Monday, first night we will stay in Luxembourg, second night Heidleberg and Wednesday night a hotel near Nordhausen. I know it is the long way round to get there but I have never stopped in Luxembourg other than for Petrol so it will be interesting to see a bit more of the place and top up with a tankfull of cheaper fuel. The castle at Heidleberg is supposed to be amazing and as we are that way it will be a good exscuse to see it. Nordhausen should be interesting and it means we only have a short run to arrive on Thursday if every goes to plan.
We are looking forward to this trip and it is a part of the Europe we have never visited.
Not many weeks to go know.
Steve
