Le Mans Classic - July 2014

Post by zacmarshall »

The Jensen Owners Club will be attending the 2014 Le Mans Classic; next year?s event will be the seventh biannual Le Mans Classic. The Le Mans Classic is probably the most popular historic racing event in the world attracting 500 historic race cars and their drivers. The 2012 event was supported by the participating classic car clubs and 8000 classic cars with a considerable number attending from these shores.

The races will adhere to the Le Mans 24 hour tradition and start at 16.00 hours on Saturday 5th July and finish on Sunday 6th July at 16.00 hours. The race features historic endurance race cars from the 1920?s to 1970?s many of which raced at Le Mans in period. The competing cars are classified into 6 age related Plateaus (grids). Each Plateau races for an hour in rotation and this is then repeated 4 times over the 24 hours; the cumulative furthest travelled in each Plateau determining the winner of each Plateau.

Our party will depart from Portsmouth by ferry early on Thursday 3rd July 2014 and drive to Alencon, where we will stay at the Campanile.

A group evening meal will be organised for our party. We will drive to Le Mans on Friday morning and camp at the circuit for two nights. Camping en masse, the legendary ?camp Jensen? of barbecues, beers and much Jensen waffle will be pressed back into service! Whilst the race is in progress there is much to see and view with many shows and displays: have a look at http://www.lemansclassic.com.

After the race has finished on Sunday, we will drive to Caen and stay overnight at the Campanile. Again we will have an organised group evening meal. We will depart early Monday morning for our return to Portsmouth at about 13.00 hours.

The weekend is relaxed with members and their families setting their own agenda. Having said that, this ?camp Jensen? is a hospitable place to be and many lasting friendships have been made there over the years. In 2012 fifty seven members and their families attended; many regulars attend routinely every two years.

Costs are likely to be about ?600 per car plus 2 persons. The cost includes ferry, two overnight accommodations and evening meals, camping pitch, general admission, paddock pass and grandstand seating. Track laps and picnic hampers are extra. The event was oversubscribed in 2012 and will be so again so, if you are interested in attending, could you please let me know? We will need to place our order with the organisers by the end of November 2013.

If you would like to have a chat about the event please call John Donegan on 01580 201167 after 20.00 hours weekdays or e-mail him at billy.rootes@yahoo.co.uk

Is there a possibility to only subscribe with the Jensen Club for the camping spot ?
And thus also have admission to be on the Jensen Parking space in the circuit ?

I will probably be driving my Interceptor from Belgium to Le Mans this year on Friday and will stay friday and saturday night .

On the official site the only thing that seems to be booked up is the Maison Blanche camping. Unless I have misunderstood. I do not think I will be going as it has worked out.

Guys ,

Thanks again for the info , but unfortunately due to circumstances , I will not be able to visit Le Mans Classic this year .

On the other hand , I will be at Goodwood Festival of Speed 2014 .

Is there anything organized by the Club to attend this event ?

Kind regards , Harald

Hello everybody,

We are the lucky owners of 2 JENSEN (383ci 1969 and 440ci 1972) and we are living in a small typical village (Restigné) at about 80 km far from Le Mans Classic, where we can find a lot of wine (St Nicolas de Bourgueil, Bourgueil) J

We have a bedroom for friends and can host 2 persons at home. But if you like it, we have a garden, which can be used as a camping place (before or after the week-end, if you want to visit the region and the Chateaux de la Loire). We would be happy to receive you and to discuss about cars.

Furthermore, if you have a problem with the mechanic (it can happen, even with our marvelous cars J), we could maybe help you to repair.

On Saturday night (from 5.07 to 6.07), we intend camping at Le Mans. Do you know if the owners of Jensen will organize something or not, is it possible to meet us in Le Mans ?

Waiting for your answer (cherve@arthus-bertrand.fr)

Kind regards from all the family (Joanny 15 years, Françoise and Christophe)

I will attend the Classic for the first time but did not manage to buy my Jensen yet . Maybe I'll find one there.
Anyway can anyone give me an idea where the JOC members will be parked or where you will be drinking .
Thanks and look forward to meeting you .
