NEC Restoration Show Birmingham - 18 -20 March 2022

Post by shaun »

I have applied for a stand at the Restoration show at the NEC next March.

I wont know until the new year if we have got a stand but in the meantime, I would welcome members who may be interested and willing to bring their cars along and ideally demonstrate over the weekend some form of restoration /upgrade work together with a possible concours example alongside a "barn find."

This will be an excellent opportunity to further promote our Apprentice initiative and the tie in with King Dick Tools and Heritage Skills Academy from Bicester.

Over to you members!!!

Let me know.

I find this very interesting.

No responses, no expressions of interest. Zilch. (Bar one person via PM. Thank you).

Several members have in the past said "why doesn't the club do the restoration show?"

Well, we would if the members thought it worthwhile.

Lets see if anybody else steps forward.

Sounds like a great idea to me. Giving people 24 hours to respond though is probably not realistic. Also I would guess that only 10 to 20 per cent of the JOC participate in the Forum regularly, or at all, so it is not a very effective medium to communicate with the membership as a whole. Also committing to move and exhibit a car mid restoration is a bit more of an ask than driving or transporting a concours example to the November NEC, there are more logistics to think about and whether it is at a stage where angles could be presented/explained when exhibited. With my own car the restoration once completed has been explained in some detail in articles and my book but it would have been quite challenging to remove it from the workshop during the work.

I imagine the committee and registrars collectively are actually aware of many cars that are currently being restored and could put feelers out if there is no response.

As David says 24 hours is a bit soon, but it was a useful reminder :-)

I'm happy to help out on the stand (assuming Luke doesn't go down with Covid again  )

How about finding a C-V8 mid-restoration with the fibreglass panels off? Would be useful for people to see what is under their C-V8 / Interceptor. If Jason and team find more rust on mine that may be a candidate :-( My Bagheera was on the Matra EC stand a few years back without panels and that got lots of attention. Whether that was because of the quality of welding I'm not sure (never buy a car from a welding instructor!) I seem to remember the Interceptor chassis that Peter Stait had on the stand attracted lots of attention.

Annoying after Jim Smith worked his magic with the engine rebuild. May be worth having it (or something similar) on the stand to make the point it's not just about concours cars, my car did seem to attract attention at the London show, there seemed to be more people approaching me than John with his much nicer C-V8.

If I could drive my car to Birmingham, that would be one thing. Arranging for it to be trailered there would involve a lot more complication and expense, which I can't currently afford. Otherwise I'd be happy to. I have left a coating of dust all over it which gives a real barn find look, just in case.
Let me know if the stand needs manning.

I would imagine if a non runner or part restored car is available and someone is willing for that car to be used, with the money that's in the club account they might be able to help with expensive
Worth asking

Shaun

I would be interested in bringing my car to this Show as i have previously expressed an interest in showing my car again at the NEC

I was fortunate to be able to show my car on THe Pride of Ownership Stand in November 2016
My restoration was intended to bring the car back to a good useable example after being off the road for over 30 years, although i did end up with it being stripped to a bare shell
The fact that the car has been in my Ownership for 43 years and the interior is original and in very good condition has attracted a lot of interest in the shows that i have been to since - and won a few awards along the way
I have allowed many people access into my car - and almost without exception they have been very respectful

I do have some jobs that require attention over the winter but hope that these would all be complete by March next year

Please let me know if my car would be of interest

Kind regards

Hi Shaun,

This is an excellent idea, and I hope the Club can have a stand at the Show.

I will have a think on how I maybe able to help with the project, also I have a contact who possibly could help with a project Jensen or two.
I will make enquires and get back to you, no promises at this stage, but worth asking.
I am particularly interested in the apprentice scheme, an excellent idea,

best regards,

Wil

P.S.
Jim, as you know, our Jensen 111 Interceptors are very similar in being very original, and specification.
I hope to complete my restoration early next year...

Was hoping to make it this year on Friday but work seems to have had other ideas and so have had to comply with that instead of changing to suit my visit to the show.

Hope everyone has a great time and look forward to the pictures !!!!

Hi Raj,
Just to let you know I'll be there on Friday with Zac and a few others so look forward to seeing you. It'll be strange to actually see a show.
I hope the set-up goes well tomorrow!
