The trouble with suggesting a local pub is I'd guess that Stuart & Gill don't actually know what all of the local pubs & restaurants are like.
Any phone number given might be considered a "recommendation"...
I suggest a quick Google search will show a number of pubs and restaurants all within striking distance of Eastwood Hall, which is at the top of this picture.
Anyone could then choose their own alternative restaurant or pub should they wish to have an alternative evening.

Well done Martin, its not hard for people to find their own food. I assume that most people attending are adults or with adults who would have to find somewhere to eat if they booked their own hotel or went on holiday.

I don't see why the organisers who have put so much work into this already should have to babysit everyone attending, they have put forward a comprehensive meal plan and if you choose not to take it up as I don't because we take our dog then its not hard to find somewhere to eat.

The point that's being made
As a club, the club is inviting people to attend a weekend that the club has organised. They have published a weekend break for members to attend.
So the club organises a dinner and dance for members to attend, but why shouldn't the club support those that don't like the idea of a dinner and dance.

Yes we are all adults and as adults we can find alternative eating and that's how it's always been, so maybe it's time to change to include ALL attendees and not just some.

The point is that Stuart and Gill are organising an event, a total package. All the JOC can do is to consider the opportunity to participants to skip the meals and/or dinner-dance and perhaps make a small reduction in the package price. This way these participants can organise their own meals, be it MacDonalds or a 3-star Michelin restaurant and everything in between. You cannot expect the organisers to make appointments with every restaurant in the area. They have more than enough on their plate. As stated before you are supposedly all adults and one can assume you are well able to find an alternative to suit your taste and pockets. You can arrange that on line well in advance if need be.

It is what we have done in the Netherlands with the lunches during our HJGH-weekends in the last few years. When we started in 2011 all lunches were pre-arranged and catered for. However for some these were to copious, to small, hot meals instead of cold, cold meals in stead of hot, to early, to late, no choice menu, not vegetarian, not kosher, what ever.
So we skipped the pre-arranged lunches, except the farewell lunch on the Sunday (and even that, and the participants now make their own choice on the way. In most cases they do so in groups. Everybody happy!!

Kees, I don't not expect a booking at every restaurant in the area. I have said it would be nice if a phone number of a restaurant was supplied so members can per book if they wish.

This is all part of the club including ALL members that attend and not some

Colin,

Martin’s earlier post answers the point you make and others have addressed the issue fully, as well.

Let it go mate.

If you had recently joined the JOC commonly known as

‘The friendly Club’, would you consider traveling to your first

International in 2022 after reading all the bickering & bitching

going on 7 months before the event itself !

You are both right, Kees we are friends club, Gill and I will try to meet whatever members want.

John, a new member would not know that and might be put off thinking there was a huge amount of conflict.

Still looking forward to meeting old friends and making new ones in June! :D

Alison's GT at Eastwood Hall 2005, picture was used in Magazine articles and a book. :D
It was here we saw Graeme Calvert Thompson's numberplate 'CT50' on a blue Bentley, this number is just one that had been on our Convertible.

International Weekend 2022

As mentioned in the “save the date” piece in the last magazine the International Weekend has reverted to our usual June (10-12) dates and will be at Eastwood Hall, Nottingham. The venue is close to the M1 and easily accessible from all directions. The hotel was refurbished shortly before being forced to close by the Covid pandemic.

The hotel is allowing use of the car park (formerly a walled garden) which is flat and has a water supply for our Concours competition. Eastwood was the birthplace of the novelist DH Lawrence; the hotel is themed on characters appearing in his writing as are the room names

Our weekend schedule:

Friday 10 June: Arrival and buffet style meal in our private suite, a time to meet old friends and make new ones. The bar will be open :D .

Saturday 11 June: After breakfast in the hotel we will head out on a planned drive. We will be visiting the “Great British Car Journey” (https://greatbritishcarjourney.com/about-us/).

This is a very new museum housed in a former wire factory in the Derbyshire we will be taken on an interactive journey celebrating an era when British entrepreneurs and engineers were at the forefront of a transport revolution. Along with Henry Ford in America , Herbert Austin and William Morris were the leaders who put the working population behind the wheel and gave us all the freedom of mobility which we now take for granted.

This is the story of a British industry which in its heyday was a worldwide force and its products could be found in all corners of the globe. Its heroes are the popular cars from a bygone era when for half a century, British cars did literally "rule the road". Many of these cars are now incredibly rare and we have spent over two years searching for examples to display.

We will on a journey which starts in the early 1920s when the working family could only dream of owning a car. The journey ends as we venture into the new millennium and most of Britain's great car factories fall silent, overwhelmed by the same process of globalisation which swept away our once proud Ship Building and Aviation industries.

There is a café in the museum serving snacks or full lunches, alternatively there are many hostelries able to cater as you wish.

The afternoon is up to you, there is a local distillery producing Gin and with the first batch of Peak District Whisky maturing, tours have to be booked https://www.whitepeakdistillery.co.uk/p ... s-tasting/

The Crich tram museum (https://www.tramway.co.uk) is also close by and well known to the club, our open day was held there in the heady per-covid days!

Further up the Derwent Valley, Cromford Mills (https://www.cromfordmills.org.uk) relate the history of Richard Arkwright and early industrialisation of the area.

The Denby Pottery Village (https://www.denbypottery.com) is also within easy driving distance

In the evening we will assemble 7 for 7:30 for our dinner dance at the hotel, this will incorporate a speech from our new chair and a guest speaker and entertainment. The hotel is able to cater for choice of meal which will have to be ordered when booking.

Sunday 12 June: Dusters down at 10:00 am and the serious business of concours begins, though we will also run the popular “show’n’shine” competition at the same time. We will enjoy a BBQ lunch before prize giving at 3pm.

Although the BBQ on Sunday will only be available to those who have ordered as part of the weekend package, the hotel will be offering meals or snacks at the bar for those who wish.

Dog friendly rooms will be available for a small cleaning charge but please ask at the time of booking. The hotel has a very well equipped wellness centre and gym which will be included for the weekend.

The package will cost £260 for two sharing, £210 for a single room, there will be a booking form in the next magazine but the most efficient way to book is through the club website https://joc.org.uk/events/international-weekend-2022/
