This bit of info might be a bit too late.
I believe that there is a special way to finish the ends of the P-seal which is described very well in this thread (viewtopic.php?f=4&t=22666). Mind you I've been meaning to replace mine for the last 12 months but the new seal is still lying in the boot so "hats off" to you!
Phil
Thanks Phil , I did read it and had one attempt. There was only about 75mm spare at each end and with Hampton Court less than a week away I was keen just to improve on what I had ..

Nice one JohnImage
It's quite simple to do, I did do mine with the flattened ends..the 1st end took about 1/2 hour to work it out and 4 slices in my fingers and 1 thumbImage, then the 2nd one 5mins and no bloodImage

I'm sure anyone reading this forum would have seen that 128/4451 will be going up for sale at the end of July:

See post : https://joc.org.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=34096

Thought I would update the page as to what's been done to the car lately..

Firstly after the video shoot on Dartmoor in late May I felt the gearbox just wasn't right and decided on a rebuild.

As I was already sorting out bills/invoices I was aware that the last rebuild was 1988.

Devon & Cornwall Transmissions in Ivybridge did a great job and it now pulls as smooth as silk.
Its obvious to see why these boxes were fitted back in the 1970's.

My other update was the famous 'Lucas' starting solenoid. A right hastle to remove and replace as its fixed under the battery tray.

I recommend you follow the advice from expert Dave 'Oily Rag' Pearce and weld the nuts onto the solenoid (and carry a spare)

I will spend the next few weeks checking everything mechanical , cleaning and fettling so the next custodian can continue the cars journey...

I agree John that the starter solenoid is a pain to replace, but please what would welding the nuts to the solenoid archive ??
Only working half a day now.

I makes it so much quicker & easier. Saves removing the splash guard and a pair of hands trying to locate the nuts underneath..
