Re: My Early Mk3 Interceptor Restoration project
Brilliant idea the battery isolator. That looks like a decent one too. I have been thinking about one in the transmission tunnel area, so it can be isolated more conveniently while out and about. I use the simple green knob type on the -ve, it needs to be kept very clean and doesn't always contact properly. I had a decent switch in the footwell on the TVR which was really convenient. A modern VW I owned self combusted around the steering column melting the dash and cracking the screen. Only tightly closed windows caused it to go out. Could easily have spread and burnt a house down.
Congratulations on the NYT article. They used a stunning photo of your car.

Re: My Early Mk3 Interceptor Restoration project
A battery isolator is a good idea but yours is not very attractive.
As John says it is much more convenient to put one in a footwell. I have fitted one high up in the passenger footwell of my TR4, out of sight. Easy to use, I take out the red plastic key whenever the car is parked somewhere. I fitted it as a simple anti theft / joy ride device because the locks are very worn on this car and someone with just a screwdriver would be able to start the car on the ignition lock.

It's not period, but I wouldn't personally think it unattractive. It looks functional.

Spent Thursday (11/03/21) back with the film crew from an upcoming series on Discovery +.
The program is not car related but linked to a design channel & features a high end kitchen business & uses the stunning Trematon Castle Nr Saltash.
Had to dodge lots of showers but left early enough to take a few shots under one Brunei’s masterpieces..

Re: My Early Mk3 Interceptor Restoration project
After 11 years ownership & no idea if I had sorted out the brake pads in 2010 I bit the bullet and purchased 6 new pads.
Nothing is ever simple on a Jensen and a few hours after dropping the car off at my local mechanic I was duly informed that at least one piston was seized in both rear calipers!
After a quick call to Appleyards four new calipers we’re heading to Devon.
Mustn’t grumble as the car is heading towards its 50th birthday

Re: My Early Mk3 Interceptor Restoration project
I was always proud of my delicate touch on the brakes until I found my MX5 had many of its brake pistons seized. A mechanic pointed out that the occasional hard stamp on the brakes would have freed things off.

Re: My Early Mk3 Interceptor Restoration project
Really pleased to finally get to see 128/4451 on the TV.
Discovery Plus are now streaming ‘For the Love of Kitchens’
My car was used for two days of filming in Autumn 2020 & again this spring.
Car was fully insured and driven by the owner of DeVol kitchens for close ups while I drove the car in the afternoons for long range shots.
The program is aimed at the USA market hence using a typically English GT to drive to a castle retreat in Cornwall..

Re: My Early Mk3 Interceptor Restoration project
Six years after rushing to rebuild my car in 2 weeks after paint for a tour of Cornwall (which I had organized) I finally got around to fitting a new P seal to the hatch aperture.
Would have been so much easier if I had done it 6 years ago with no hatch fitted but the screws all came out easily and pleased with the result..

Hi John
This bit of info might be a bit too late.
I believe that there is a special way to finish the ends of the P-seal which is described very well in this thread (viewtopic.php?f=4&t=22666). Mind you I've been meaning to replace mine for the last 12 months but the new seal is still lying in the boot so "hats off" to you!
