Re: Jensen Brothers
Thanks! I took them both out for a run and had a great time, bystanders craning their necks etc . The Austin powered 541S is rock steady, with excellent straight line stability, corners well too. Once in top gear it just goes on, defiantly a long distance touring car. It is reminiscent of driving a Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud, proceeding with stately ease. They do both share the same gearbox the RR Hydramatic. For some reason the Rolls-Royce has the column change on the right and the Jensen has it on the left. The quadrants are mirror images of each other. People are very reverential of a Rolls-Royce, but they love a Jensen.
The Donald Healey built 541S V8 with a Chevrolet 327 (5.4L) V8 on the other hand.... Feather light acceleration, like a well sorted CV8. It is about 1 1⁄2" lower than the standard 541S, and corners quickly without effort. It is such a joy to drive.
I agree with you Grant. After 25 years of ownership I still get a thrill every time I drive the old 541S V8, a great place to be
Below Rolls-Royce Hydramatic v Jensen Rolls-Royce built Hydramatic. To me it is more natural to change gear with left hand...
