Jensen Healey Mk 1 Restoration

Post by Clive Bishop »

Well this is day 1 of a long term restoration or if the rust is just too bad then a parts car for another I have.

If anyone is bored and wishes to give me a hand with doing this job, then you are more than welcome as thjis car has sat in a garage for for about 22 years and had little expert maintenance before that and so everything fights back :D

So having stripped out my garage and put 40% of the stuff I had into storage to give working room, here are the first pictures before things start to be taken off or break etc from time fatigue.

Having seen it in the flesh a very doable project.

I would think the retro AC would sell easily

Wow! The best bonnet leading edge, headlamp cowl line I've seen in ages! No pressure reinstating that Clive.

My top tip is buy multiple freezer bags so you can capture the small items you take off (and shove a note in with it on which way they fit). The number of times over the years I've taken something off and thought to myself I'll remember it goes on top of that, this way round....only to spend ages on reinstall trying to figure it out.

Good luck!

Bigger problem is things breaking or snapping off so useless to collect them up

Its knowing which end or where to start, so playing the bit here and the bit there game :)

What has become evident is that the car had been made out to seat 4 - yes that's right! Rear seat belts had been taken out, just found a piece of paper that was almost like dust for a Japanese set and some old bolts. Rear bench seat and back rest in place and also two sets of door speakers - front and rear.

I know the car was owned by a Chinese / Hong Kong person but four up ? - 2 adults and 2 kids ?

Good luck with this project Clive, personally I would keep the A/C although not original always an added feature for those really hot days blowing down or of course if the roof is up keeping the screen clear if raining - that's if your out in the rain - if it works of course.
Let's hope that it doesn't give too many headaches.

Keep the pictures coming
Only working half a day now.

No not keeping the air con as it is and the mechanicals will have some degree of upgrades especially as the engine is seized or at least will not turn and the water system is full of white powder :D

With the seat in the forward position in your picture, as it could well be for a Chinese driver bearing in mind how much taller we can be in the West, there seems to be definite leg room for the rear in your picture. More than many other supposed 2 plus 2s?

I am available for a photo session Clive for a fee (to cover multiple sessions at the chiropractor) - you in the driver's seat, me in the back. With the hood up..

No standing up in the seat either, with a hole in the hood around your ankles.
