Steady but sure progress by Jason and the Riverbourne Classics team on the interior retrim. We've gone for the full caboodle on heat- and sound-proofing...

There was a bit of head scratching around how to shape the boot carpet around the sender unit of the larger Mk2/3 fuel tank but Jason now has a plan...

The team are doing some lovely work trimming the carpet edges with the mocha leather (there was no way we would have found a matching brown vinyl). With the original bitter chocolate Wilton carpet no longer available we were relieved to see that the alternative carpet we chose is an excellent match for the Connolly Vaumol mocha leather...

And best of all the mocha leather really sets off the tangerine body work. It's a bold choice (albeit one that has been done before in 117/3139) but it really works and seems to attract universally positive comments. Phew!

Hopefully the retrim will be done by Xmas, so the team at Chris Marsh Classics can crack on and get the car finished fairly quickly in the New Year. Not quite in the home straight, but nearing the end of the back straight I reckon.

Front seats retrimmed. Can’t wait to see them reunited with the seat hinges refurbished by Lancia specialists, the as-of-a-couple-of-weeks-ago-unfortunately-named Omicron Engineering…

Really digging that color combination too Nigel, well done! Love the detailed work Jason does, and your photo reportage is really helping to understand all the TLC that goes in it.
Found a Vignale built LHD MK1 in South Africa, Sincar #15, chassis 117/2592.
On a long and winding road to restore it back to original condition.

Lewi and I went down to Riverbourne yesterday so I could sit in the car for wing mirrors to be properly positioned. The boot interior fit out is pretty much complete now, other than some additional insulation around the fuel tank sender.

Seat buildup is nearly complete. I hope the new foam settles fairly quickly as, even with no spacers on the seat rails, my head is touching the surround of the Webasto sunroof!

HiYa Nigel :P ..All looking lovely there "the Big Orange" ..Lovely wit the contrasting brown interior leather workImage, I think Jasons trimwork/leather work takes some beating..he knows his stuff with that..I'm sure he used to be a trimmer, but I may have that wrongImage
Nigel, Your Webasto Roof(I presume it's a Websato?)..did you get a seal/Gasket for around the Alloy Trims against the roof paint section please?..I'm trying to get one as I sold my refurbed Webasto, but I have mis-layed the gasket so was wondering when I saw yours?..If you only have the one for your car I'll take that one!"Image

Hi Grant

Thanks for the comments - the tangerine/mocha combo always seems to raise eyebrows initially, but then generally positive comments once the initial shock has worn off!

Yes it is a Webasto sunroof, and yes we did get the rubber piping that sits between the alloy trim pieces and the painted surface of the roof. Drop Steve Camp at The Trimming Centre a line and he’ll sort you out with some thetrimmingcentre@yahoo.co.uk

Best,
Nigel

Nigel, 3484 is looking stunning, really looking forward to seeing the end result.

What wheels will be going on? It looks like you have more power, so will there be bigger brakes ?

No it had a sunroof and a black vinyl roof when Lewi purchased it in 2011. I don’t have any documentation to suggest when those might have been fitted…

Thanks Eddie!

Original 5” Rostyles, powdercoat chrome refurbed. Lewi is keen that I swap those out for some wider new Rostyle-style wheels as sold by Riverbourne. If the upgraded motor proves too much for the original size wheels I’ll do the upgrade.

Fosseway vented brake kit on the front, refurbed original Girlings with EBC pads on the rear…

Hi Nigel,
first of all I have to admit that I never really took care about Interceptor door locks. But looking at your pics i have the impression your locks are the typical Mercedes locks. My MkIII locks look definitely different. Are there any relevant modifications between Mk2 vs Mk3 or have you done any conversions?
Just curious 🧐
Your car looks really impressive 👍

Hi Thomas

Many thanks for the comment. I can’t tell you about the differences between Mk2 and Mk3 locks (but I’m sure someone on here can). As far as I know my door locks are standard Mk1.

Best wishes,
Nigel

Nigel - i just learned „Every day is a school day“. After nearly 15 years of Jensen ownership i am NOW aware that MkI door locks look the same as Mercedes W113 (Pagoda) ones. I knew that the chrome seat hinge covers MkIII came from out of the Mercedes portfolio but this was new for me.
Thx for making me aware.
Hope you will have good progress in finishing your project.

115/3484 arrived back at Chris Marsh Classics yesterday after the River Bourne team finished the interior trim. It looks great!

Just a few relatively minor bits and pieces (such as the original late Mk1 steering wheel refurb) to finish off then the CMC team can install the instruments and wire everything up and the interior will be done.

I’m hoping the rest of the car will be done in time for my daughter’s school leavers’ ball in early July. Fingers crossed…
