115/3484 Restoration
Re: 115/3484 Restoration
Wow its turning out lovely Nigel, great to keep us all in the loop. A small favour please, i've always been curious about the design and operation of the horn slip ring on the steering column, and I'm noticing that you have rebuilt it completely. Would you mind sharing a good close-up picture of this assembly? Mine is missing completely, and i'm struggling to find any clear pictures of how it is supposed to work/look like.

Prepping the body for paint is well underway, with a particular focus on swage lines (note the difference on the front wings just next to the headlights) and shuts, plus correction of a few small areas where the metal had not been properly prepped before primer was applied. Hopefully paint will go on next week. Mopping will wait until after the car is back from interior retrim.
We also got the seatbelts back from QuickFitSBS. The original belts were disassembled, the metal parts prepped and re-chromed at S&T, and then rewebbed. The new webbing is a little more bluey-silver in colour than the original webbing, but it should still set off the new interior colour nicely.

Sharp Swage lines make a good car Nige..so well done, "Nice Job Eugene" as they said in Grease ..Did Colin Holley originally prep this car Nige or I am getting muddled up with another one?..I remember someone having a car in Colins and it got to primer stage but the owner then sold it..couldn't remember if it was this one or not?

Hi Grant, yes Colin did the bodywork on this car, but a few years back. I bought it from Lewi last year. All the best, Nige

I wonder if the Jensen trim shop would have made the seat belts, or if that would have been outsourced? Does anyone know for sure?

Door internals being built up (I think Pat might be taking a deep breath before tackling the window frames)
Gutter trim and some of the window trims/seals installed
Refurbished valve covers installed (yes I know they’re the wrong way round), plus the refurbished brake servo and m/c

Lovely progress Nige, well done sport, I see you went with the screw on oil filter then..those filter elements on the Mk1's & early Mk2's are a pain compared with the screw on ones if you're not too fussed about originality..I'm certainly notlooking good..keep the good up Mr Man

Refurbished boot and fuel flap locks just arrived from Florian Krenn at Rafano in Vienna, and the former has been united with the rechromed lock housing I bought from Mike Walker. They look great!
