Ex Strathcarron Mk2 - FYY 66H
A small write up from owner Dave Bradburn on his early Mk2 Interceptor.
Based in South Devon and recently back on the road after a long lay up.

So on the 6 June 2015 I collected my MK2 FYY66H. Originally CLD11H then S28 (Lord Strathcarron) The seller was a Mr Steve Jensen, yes really. He had owned the car for a few years , but after using the car in central London it wasn't ideal, at some point the car was parked in his mother's garage due to problems with the brakes etc, there it sat until I saw it advertised for sale initially on the joc where he was asking advice on value, anyway it then arrived on eBay where I agreed a price and off to Hastings I went . The car at home it sat in the garage for several years untouched , the factory records from Robeys were an interesting read, the car was a demonstrator for Guy Salmon ,interestingly the car was sent back to the factory to be repainted due to yellowing of the paint , not good start. The v5 only shows 3 owners Me, Steve Jensen and the right honourable Lord Strathcarron. It seems the car was back and forth to the factory like a yoyo. I believe Steve Jensen bought the car from Cropredy bridge. The car is an early MK2 with the early 2 vent dash small rear lights etc, in my view the best looking version. When I first collected the car I did hear the engine run and I must say it sounded very nice considering it had been laid up for a good while. After a few years in my garage I finally found some time to do some work on it, running your own garage business never gives you anytime for your own. After an oil change some fresh fuel she fired right up and sounded very nice ,smooth no rattles excellent I thought until the sight of water leaking from the front of the engine, to be expected of course, but good so far. The front of the engine bay striped down , new water pump, rad hoses and stat housing followed. Removing the wheels and checking the brakes etc new front calipers, pads, Flexi hoses fitted followed by rear calipers overhauled new seals, pistons pads etc. That should sort the brakes I thought, sadly not then followed a new master cylinder and new servo with resovoirs. Now the brakes are lovely. While doing the front brakes the suspension bushes were renewed. Now the brakes are working best see if she will drive so one Sunday morning a short drive up our cul-de-sac and all good ,so back on the stands for a look round and rather wet around the gearbox sump a fair leak so off with the sump new filter , clean paint the sump new gasket and fresh fluid. Trade plates on and time for the first drive in many years just round the village and stop of at John Pyms (SW Area Rep) for a chat, the car drives amazingly well feels very tight and surefooted excellent. The car itself is in very std original condition the interior is very nice and will come up a treat still has the Jensen 8 track fitted along with the fire extinguisher in front of the seat, also the jack and bag present with the tool kit. Of course the body needs a full going over new inner and outer sills will be fitted as soon as I get the time to do it, having said that the covid 19 situation is giving me lots of time in my workshop at home, the paint needs stripping off as it's cracked and splitting off everywhere, the wings doors bonnet and tailgate are very solid as are the floors from what I've seen, the sills and driver's rear lower quarter and rear valance are in a terrible state new sections needed there. Still sporting the carter carburettor and rostyle wheels low miles and the feel and smell of a sixtys GT. she is a lovely thing. I'm not looking for a show queen that I'm afraid to use but a tidy great fun smile on your face car that can be made better as it's driven and enjoyed.

Gorgeous interior. Lines look really very nice. Great way to progress a project. Find a bargain off ebay, store it well, work through the problems, see what you have got! Does anyone else remember Lord Strathcarren turning up at the JOC in his open Bentley tourer? Quite a motoring legend, campaigning for minimum speed limits.

What a fabulous original interior worthy of preservation - especially given the ownership history.

Looks a good project, and I'm with you make it presentable then use it and enjoy it, they get better the more stick you give them

Hi, You mentioned having a TOOL KIT! in the back. If so and complete you will be pestered to sell by owners of show queens. Good luck with resto. You are indeed lucky to be a mechanic with a workshop. Having a project keeps your mind active as well. kenny38

He was also great friends with the Jensen family, with access to factory Jensen models, and it has been suggested that he came up with the name "Interceptor", having been a pilot during the War.

I believe that was his own recollection, but there are nuances to this sort of history. He may have talked about fighter interceptors (not his area of service) in front of the Jensen brothers, and they picked up on it, or he may have outright said, "call it Interceptor", or anything in between. This of course would have been the 1940s early Interceptor.

Dropped my Jensen around to my mechanic earlier and
was pleased to see he has started on the drivers sill on his.
Floors are solid , interior is lovely ..

Nothing we haven't all seen before and really good in my opinion for it's age.. we see cars 10 years younger and a 100 times worse..good Ole Mk2's ..all the way they are stored for years, if it had been outside like a Twarp Dweller as Kenny says, then there would be Nothing to look at!!

Lovely car that! Not that bad either. So many of the gorgeous features from the Mk1 on the early Mk2, plus it has the 100% 70s look. It is interesting to see the car from this angle, how it is supported, how they are going about the work. Thanks for the pictures John!
