Sold on 12th October 1974 by Hamilton Motor Co of South Wales to mr Loong wai cheung (a dentist by trade) of powys south wales having covered 28826 miles who on the 20th january 1988 transferred the vehicle to C K Motor co Ltd where he was a director.
C K Motors was dissolved on 31st march 2005

First time i met the old girl

Her first night at " my place"

First job was to have a good look round her....not in bad shape considering her age
had her up on the ramp at my mates test center and all looking good and solid (save for the clown that's jacked her up on the sills at some point)
we can see there are new outer sills fitted and new fuel pump, filter, fuel lines, brake hoses, brake pipes etc etc so we throw a new battery on (just in case)
As we open the bonnet we notice a nice new edelbrock carburetor, HT leads, coil, plugs etc etc
next we put her on the brake tester 110/110 front 75/75 rear handbrake 40/40 .....things are looking healthy

light check.....dooom only main beam and VERY slow indicators to the front
rear not much better.....offside rear light works but only nearside has a brake light.....no number plate lights

We then take her round to our "technology center" and give her a good dose of WD40 all over the fuse box connections on every wiring connection we can see !
left her in the dark for 2 days and viola ! everything works

Looking round her we can see the chrome is in remarkably good shape so we prod and poke the body work.
offside rear quarter seems to have been "knocked" in the dim and distant past and the drivers tread plate has a tiny hole so we cut it open to have a really good view of the inner sills....mint but that tiny hole turned out to be a bit bigger than first thought
check both floors .....mint
now round to the passenger side .....A post (where the door is hangs from) is solid but the plate that hides it is rotted out badley (this item is no longer stocked but a little ingenuity and we have a brand new panel made (martin robeys now have the details to contact the guy that made it)
floors are very good save for the front passenger floor the has SURFACE rust
so still doubting the heath of the body work we removed the chrome looking for the nightmare holes these beasts are known for......nothing serious just a couple of VERY insignificant scabs

i now feel like i robbed the guy who sold it me as i went into this expecting mega repair bills and a couple of years creating a labour of love !
As a result of the lack of work needed and seeing it was now in bits the thought "f**k it" lets paint it tore through my head

Once all the parts were removed we took her to the local body shop were SID promptly attacked the offside rear quarter panel (muttering about bodging bast**ds, and why don't they just leave it to the experts etc etc) and told me to sod off and dont come back till he rings me

A couple of days later and here is the first priming....

And a couple more days later.......

Very lucky to find a good car that doesn't need much work, now with a new coat of paint and hopefully your be able to enjoy her before the end of summer..

Paint was a difficult choice as it was Royal Blue when new and someone did a "blow over" in bronze with minimum effort. then gave it another coat some time later.
I was leaning towards the original Royal Blue but then discovered this forum and asked in a thread for opinions, the result was "do it in a period colour you would have chosen when new".
this advice seems to be spot on as after reading these pages most have had a colour change at some point and i could be wrong but unless you have one thats minty mint mint with 5000 miles on it and on original tyres and its got everything it left the factory with after being in storage since 1976 then a respray wont effect the value

Ultimately the choice was Ford Velvet Purple
there are 2 paint codes for this as one is a lighter shade

The next choice's are :
do i leave the roof purple or paint it white ?
or fit a white vinyl roof ?
do i have twin white pin stripes ?

bearing in mine i have a set of white wall flaps and don't want to over do it i would appreciate suggestions as to the combination (anyone one here good with photoshop ? )

That is something we do not see here much! Usually it is the opposite
Interesting to see you have chosen to kept the holes for the wing mirrors. Will you fit them again? Most do not like these but I see them as a typical age related UK artifact.

Great colour choice.

Regarding pinstripes , I waited 12 months before going for

a single silver pinstripe. I felt the twin was too domineering.

Although I have a vinyl roof I would go body colour else it all gets

too busy...

If your good with a computer and photoshopping, I would take a couple of photos and play with the colours you like..
If I'm honest I do like the Ford Velvet Purple and black vinyl.. it's period and looks sharp.

You have a picture of that colour on a Capri so you know it suits a big car.

As for pin strips, I would agree with John, wait and choose wisely, get that wrong and it could spoil the whole effort

The mirrors are staying but i will fit them so they work.
At some point they were fitted the wrong way round as the arm castings have a slight twist, its not that noticeable but you cant adjust them
