C-V8, 104-2165

Post by berthold kleta »

Hello all,
I bought my C-V8 in 2016 from Klaus Mettner's estate via a professional vintage cars dealer here in North Germany. The car had been advertised as "good / 2" by the dealers Mirbach & Seemann. An insurance-report graded the car as "good / 2" as well. The car had been imported in 2003 from GB. Allegedly, it had been restored then. For sure, it had been repainted in Gun Metal Grey, wire wheels and a wooden dashboard were added on top of some extra oil-coolers and stuff like that. Surprisingly, no documentation on that restauration was following with the car. (You know how this story will turn now...)
After two years, it felt the right time to get somebody see over the floor-panels to make sure that all remains well. Problem is, things were not well at all: there was rust on most edges and some unprofessional repairs had been done to damages after two collisions at some point in the car's life, so far. Thin panels had been used to cover up progressing rott of the floor. Makes it a "4" or borderline case to "5". The central frame's pipes are still sound, though, and now an experts puts in a new floor, which will give me a sound car which will allow for engaging its engine : )
I add a few images of how it looked when we collected the car and what we found sandwiched away underneath later.
To be continued. It will be a fine car, soon again!
What I learned so far: if they promise you a fine car, then makes sure to doublecheck extra carefully...
Cheers, Berthold

It's all fun until the paint comes off! Many of us appreciate your story from experience. It will once again be a great car when you are finished.

You are not the only one with bad experience.
