My Interceptor MK2 rebuild

Hi JOC readers, I bought a MK2 nearly 2 years ago and some of you may remember it from I think the Feb2018 club rag. It’s still a work in progress but I have reached a major milestone in that it is now home painted! I thought I would put on a series of photos to where it is now and I understand that many of you will know the pain I have been through.

Ah, memories of when the paint came off my east coast MKII. Good job! Progress is measured on a calendar, not a stopwatch. Glad it is coming together for you.

Yes I think it’s a first! It’s on a set of rolling steerable axles that I made that has made working on the car so easy and kept it moveable whilst working on the body whilst enabling me to tackle the mechanics of the car completely independently. They took me a week to knock up plus a couple of old downer trailers but they have made life so much easier.
The rear bolts straight on to the rear leaf mounts and the front secures via 2 large pins through the lower A frame mounts.
They will be for sale once the car is back on its own wheels.

Now the fun begins, putting it back together, ax said before, calendar not a stop watch.. keep us posted

You see Interceptors and they always look meaningful, even the rotten ones. You have put the lights back in, with fantastic paintwork, but because it is on the dolly just makes it look wrong. Isn't it funny how certain things just don't work, and plays tricks on your eye. Looking forward to seeing it in the flesh it will be glorious, unless you decide to keep it 2 foot off the floor!!

The legendary “Jim The Trim” has just finished fitting the Vinyl roof on my MK2. Really nice bloke, very Knowledgeable and great attention to detail. Highly recommended to me and now from me!

I thought this would take a couple of weekends to do but was I ever wrong. I must be over a hundred hours into the sound and heat proofing at the moment and reckon I have another weekend to go before I can think about fitting the Dash and looms. Not having done this type of renovation work before, I templated just about every foam and glass aluminium sheet section to get the cuts and overlaps correct. I am very pleased with it but my Wife isn’t, don’t know why but I think something to do with being in the Garage all Christmas; fine by me.

Finally have the heater box and heater blower all in and the engine bay insulation is all finished. Now to at last get on with building out the engine bay and getting the wiring looms in. The original Ranco valve was shot so I have fitted a replacement from Robeys. These replacements don’t have mounting brackets and they don’t look right when they are just “hanging” so I have made a clamp bracket that locates the valve hose tails in the same locations as the Ranco, it looks like it should be there now.

I have been asked what the products are to do the sound and heat insulation work on my Jensen and where to get them from so I have posted the email from my supplier should any of you be looking to acquire these products. Even with careful templating, you will need about 6 square metres of the aluminium fibreglass material to do what I have done and also the underside of the bonnet which is this weekends job!

Well January was a very busy work wise so I didn’t get much chance to get on the rebuild. However the last couple of weeks have free’d up some time so I have been able to get the dash and engine bay wiring looms in and an assortment of engine bay/inner wing parts such as horns/air horns, electric aerial etc. I wasn’t able to get the master cylinder fitted as it turns out the car has previously had a Jaguar XJ6 series 2 brake servo and master cylinder fitted. The front brake hose had connected to the cylinder almost kinked over as it was so tight to the inner wing, so I have been able to track down a N.O.S LHD XJ6 series 2 master cylinder which is a mirror image of the one from the car that I have already had reconditioned. The car was part stripped when I got it and this was one item already removed so I was non the wiser until I came to refit it. Any way, a couple more photos of my progress.
