My Interceptor MK2....

Post by Oxymoron »

Hi,
I recently became the keeper of this 1970 Interceptor MK2 123/3854, having wanted one since the early 1970s, when I saw one on holiday In France as a child. It was sat next to us in the queue for the Ferry home and had steam gently rising from the engine bay!

My example has some features of the Mk3 model, as previous owners have adapted the car to their tastes.

The most obvious are the Mk3 wheels and wing side vents to the exterior.

On the interior it has had re upholstered Mk3 front seats and centre console controls installed.

The door trims have also been re upholstered, but the rear seat has an original looking patina.

The car was also re painted in Jaguar Ultra Blue Metallic in 2016 for the previous owner, when a new windscreen and all new rubber window and door seals were also installed.

Looking at the history file, a replacement, rebuilt 6.3 V8 engine was sourced from the USA in 2003 and the car certainly gets down the road very well!

My first task is to source some replacement tyres as the Pirellis currently fitted are over 15 years old!

Welcome to Interceptor 11 ownership.

I see your based in Warwickshire, you may already know that Nuneaton is home to Martin Robeys. A great source of parts for these cars. There are of course other great suppliers, but it is nice to have someone on your doorstep.

Good luck for with your tyre search. I recently replaced my Pirellis with Goodyear sport classics. They transformed the handling of the car.

Hi
Thanks for the welcome!
I was originally looking for a MK3, but this car fulfils my requirements and I have since been told that the 6.3 engine is in fact the better one to go for.

I have only ever driven one other Interceptor and that was a Mk3 7.2 hire car, which felt considerably slower than this one...not that I'll be racing around!

The previous owner spent a lot of money with Martin Robey, as there's a lot of invoices from them in the history file.

Is there a Midlands local group, as I couldn't see anything for my area on the forum?

Cheers,

As far as I know there isn’t one.

But I find there is quite a lot to do if you look in the events area on the forum.

There is an excellent meet at Dartmouth park West Brom next Saturday. It’s organised by Kev Birch.

The clubs International is well worth going to, that’s in June.

Also there are some excellent tours to do, I have been on 3 down to the south west, also booked on this years September event.

Also abroad tours if you fancy some international driving.

Happy motoring.

Perhaps I should start up a "Heart Of England" local group! :D

Welcome to the club, and a really good looking car.
As Eddie says, there is a very informal meeting at Dartmouth Park next week, a few cars to help along with the Park's open day, as it is in West Brom, Jensen's home. If you can make it, you will be more than welcome, entrance is on Reform St, and aim to get there for 10:30ish, all very relaxed.
If not hope to catch up in the future.

Hi,
Thanks for the welcome!

I will try to come along to the meeting as I'm only down the road near Warwick and it would be good to get the car out on the road and meet a few other owners.
I missed a couple of local classic car events over the Bank holiday weekend due to having sprained my right knee and it was too painful to drive the Jensen!

My other classic car is a 1979 Reliant Scimitar GTE 3.0 V6, but the Jensen has taken it's place in the garage at the moment!....
