Submerged Jensen Healey

Post by Mike L »

I bought a Jensen Healey on Ebay for a driver. The seller neglected to tell me the car had ben submerged. Rather than get rid of it I decided to do a modest restoration. That has turned into a full restoration. I spent the summer and early fall taking it apart and labeling all the parts. It has been quite fun. I will send a few more photos as I go.

What caused it to go swimming? One of your local, recent hurricanes?

How did you find out it was in Davey Jones' Locker?

When we started looking at the rear end etc., it soon became apparent. I think it was flooded a couple years ago in Georgia. Luckily fresh water, but not that lucky.

I have a few now Colin. I have been trying to resist Jensens, but it hasn’t worked yet.

Good for you Mike - the J-H is a relatively low cost (!), easy to work on car. And a lot of fun to hoot around in.
I decided to do a modest restoration. That has turned into a full restoration.
I know the feeling. Repair of the brake booster on my J-H turned into a full repaint of the engine bay....

It's a malaise known as Jensenitis. There is no known cure.

Not yet Colin. I am hoping to have 2 Jensen’s to drive before the end of the year. Time will tell.

The Jensen Healey is back from paint and ready to start putting back together. The car was straight with very little rust. I did have to replace the floor pans though, which Andy Brooks helped me out with. It shouldn't be long before I am driving it.

Mike. Like the paint job, the engine looks mint as well, you are going to need a bigger property if this carries on.
Good luck to you Sir.
