C-V8 engine rebuild nearly finished

Post by John Staddon »

It's all been early Interceptor news from me for a few months now (you won't have seen it as it all posted in Early Cars Tech and only a few people look at that...) but today Andy Brooks sent me a photo of the rebuilt engine for the C-V8 and it's looking very smart. Of course it still needs to go back in the car (engine bay painted) but I think Andy is on the last leg, as the car has not been driven since the second week of January I can't wait to drive it again. As the brakes have been rebuilt and the suspension bump stops replaced as well as some suspension rubber bushes and the exhaust hangers and even the steering column UJs it should be a transformed car.

Hi Grant

No, Andy Brooks advised, 'if it ain't broke don't fix it'. I did ask him to take the box out and send for a check up but he said no, he wouldn't touch it. I just hope he is right.

All looking very nice John.
I called into Appleyards a few weeks ago and was surprised to see your car, that far up-north! I believe your car is in very good hands and I would trust Andy to know what’s needed. I doubt you’ll believe it’s the same car when you get it back.

Hi Jon

Why the car is so for up north is a long story (I was hoping for a rebuild by someone a bit nearer home) which I won't trouble the forum with.

Two days ago Andy sent me a photo of the car with the engine back in place so I hope he and Kevin are on the home straight now. Andy was hoping to run it yesterday but there may have been a slight hiccup when Andy realised the engine builder had thrown away the old spin off oil filter element (it was converted to the spin off type many years ago and before my time) and he didn't know the reference for a new one, and nor did I, but TimSP came to the rescue as he knows what it is.

I’m using the Fram PH43, if that helps.

Ouch!

Terrible news.

Good luck for a minimal repair.

The Problem was not the engine builders fault it turned out to be a inadequate oil filter which as now been resolved
Dave has built many engines for me and never had a problem so keep up the good work dave and keep smiling :D
