Mk 3 Interceptor 1974

I've got the bug. To go with my Mk2 1970, I have bought the attached Mk3 1974. Should be with me in 6 weeks time. Vin/Chassis No. 2240.9513. Paintwork and a few other bits needs addressing.Looking forward to doing most of it in the summer.

1974. Yes, good to share a brew with you the other day Grant. Richard Calver confirmed a detail for me and after communicating with the previous owner a few times i bought it from BHCC. It went to the US in 2012. It needs a good re-spray. The engine bay is in very good looking and running order. Not sure about the colour, (keep the same or change) vinyl roof and wooden steering wheel yet.The interior seems very good from what i have seen.

Looks a nice useable car. I'm sure there are improvements to be done, but looks nice and straight, and a really good base to do with what you want, or just get in it and drive it
Don't take it to Grant's though he'll sit in it and say he's checking for play in the steering, but actually trying to remove the steering wheel. I believe he's got one of every type fitted to a MK2, and that wheel is beautiful, so may start him off on the MK3s.

Well…I thought I had a bit to do with this Mark 3 but not as much as replacing inner and outer sills, front valance (thanks Grant) , side rears, repairing floor pans and both sides by the grills - spent so many hours on it!! Anyway, now onto the engine bay.. that has msd cables, Mallory ignition, offenhauser (?) intake manifold, Holley carb - runs very well though!! Some photos..

I've always found that Offenhauser inlet manifolds are just so the best for Interceptors Karan..the reason is they are so low with such short intake runners that they give the most low down torque/power compared to the others, this is what we all want and need with Interceptors..I am sure others may say different, but..hopefully you may trust me Karan ..but, alloy ones are best, not sure of yours is alloy or Iron Karan?..You can't beat Alloy for heat dissipation

Grant, I must say, it runs beautifully with good torque. But it has got a rather noisy electric fuel pump in the boot. I will probably change this or try some insulation / anti- vibration fixing. I would really like to clean all the staining and grease in the engine bay components. Are the sides of the rocker covers suppose to be black? Btw, I tried to remove the windscreen glass in my Mk1 by pushing it with feet but failed… probably too timid!! You did say to leave all the chrome trims in place right?…the chrome bits on the doors are also difficult to remove as I have to take the glass windows off to get to the small screws that secures the chrome strip.

Btw Grant, not for Stu.. but what do you think of the console’s clear polish plate that has the rocker switches. To my surprise I like it!!

After saying that my Mk3 was running well, it has decided to let me down. I have no idea of the cause of failure. It is due to be collected tomorrow to go to a workshop but I am stuck as I can’t drive it from where I’ve got it stored. It starts but maximum rpm is about 2000 with little pulling power when the accelerator is fuller pressed down. It stalls when I drive it forward and does not have sufficient power to go up a small ramp. There is fuel at the inlets to the holley carb.Thoughts on remedy please?

Blocked fuel filter? Sludge settled in the tank after period of storage?

Thought so too Shaun. However, I disconnected the fuel inlet to carb and as it has an electric fuel pump I could see a really flow of petrol coming out of the pipe once I turned the ignition switch one click. At the moment I am trying to work out / determine if I have an ignition coil / distributor or carb issue - all very frustrating for an enthusiastic amateur!! Any more suggestions please?

Thanks Shaun but don’t think so as I am reading 3.7ohms and I tried swopping it with a spare one that I have. I now tries to start but fails. I can see fuel in the first front chambers of the Holley carb but the two at the back are dry? The fuel inlet is a tee piece to both sides of the carb. But loss and reluctant to change the coil or tinker with the carb but see myself slowly getting there.
